Details:
With an album''s worth of songs inspired by a string of failed romances in his early 20s, and some poster paper lifted from the office supply closet, Brian Kingston unexpectedly quit his Wall Street job and set off to assemble a group of musicians and industry professionals to help him record his debut album, Songwriters Are Cowards. After being introduced to the outstanding rhythm section of Stewart Myers and Brian Jones (Agents of Good Roots, Jason Mraz, Rachael Yamagata), Brian was soon connected with veteran guitarist/producer/vocalist Doug Derryberry (Bruce Hornsby, John Mayer, Ben Folds Five) and producer Chris Keup. Rounding out the outstanding team was mix/master engineer Kevin McNoldy (Dave Matthews), owner of Crystalphonic Studios in Charlottesville.
The resulting lyrically driven pop/rock homage to love lost (or, more accurately, love never actually gained) is split evenly between piano and guitar dominated tracks, earning Kingston a wide range of comparisons, from Ben Folds and David Gray to Tom Petty and Counting Crows. Consistent on every track of Songwriters Are Cowards, however, is Kingston''s obvious inability to understand even the first thing about women.
Having descended the corporate ladder for good, Brian Kingston recently released Songwriters Are Cowards on his own Blue Bleep Records label and is backing it up with live shows and radio play. The album has received significant attention and airplay from college radio (including prominent college stations WERU-Maine, WFDU-New Jersey and WTCC-Massachusetts) and Brian''s recent shows included playing to packed houses at New York City''s famous Bitter End and Knitting Factory.
