Alec had been playing guitar and singing for about 50 years. His interest in Jazz, Blues, Rock and Country really shines through on this CD.
His guitar work has been said to be like that of Les Paul and Johnny Smith. It is a unique style of leads, lead chords, and terrific rhythm jazz chords.
He has a vocal technique that has been compared with Frank Sinatra. His smiling vocal work puts you at ease. He draws you in to a style that highlights the greatest years of the classic mid-20th. Century pop ballads, while exploring the newest recording techniques and instrumentation.
1) Scotch and Soda—Here is an up-beat version of this classic song. It pulls you in, and prepares you for the rest of the album.
2) Why?—Sounding like it could have been released to great fanfare in 1960, this song is Alec’s first recorded original. Smokey, loungey, and sometimes ethereal, it is the ballad you’ve always wanted to sing to that lost love. Haunting back up vocals are by Alec’s son, Alex Wall.
3) Hey Good Lookin’—This backyard jam is like lemonade and sunshine. It makes you want to give your sweetheart a big kiss and dance around the kitchen!
4) God Bless The Child—A great and unique version of the standard, not heard often enough. Spooky and dynamic, with a lot of heart and soul in it.
5) Folsom Prison Blues—Here’s the Johnny Cash hit, done with an interesting rhythm. Impressive guitar work and an engaging back beat, make you feel like you’re sitting there in that cell—with a train chugging by in the distance.
6) I Can’t Get Started—Alec’s version of this song has been presented from the perspective of the charming Mainer. This is another song that may have been forgotten about, but with a new approach, Alec brings it right back to the forefront, where it belongs.
7) My Babe—Introducing Alan Frey on lead vocals and harp, this song will force you to boogie! With a hard driving beat and intensity it breathes new life into the old blues classic.
8) Sincerely—The moment this song starts you are transported back to that high school gymnasium, peering into the eyes of your first love, as beams from the mirror ball trace out starry paths around the room. Destined to be a retro hit for today’s generation.
9) Crazy—Willie Nelson’s song has never sounded to heart-felt. With an a terrific guitar intro and interesting musical bridge, this song will be listened to over and over.
10) Wrap It Up—We are gathered here to dance until the spirit is through with us! Crank this song up and get movin’! Wonderful, subtle lyrics imbibe the melodies and revive the soul.
