I am a self-produced artist who can play well over a dozen different musical instruments and started singing at the age of 3. I made it a point, even when I was very young, to learn as many instruments as I possibly could because I somehow knew that it would become handy some day and boy did it ever! Let''s just say that it cut production costs down for the CD considerably! And incidentally, I have perfect pitch as well.
If I could adequately describe my music, I would say that it is a mixture between, say, Stevie Wonder and James Taylor with a little Classical edge to it.
I started writing songs when I was 12. I credit my wonderful brother, Lonnie, who gave me a sound education about songwriting after taking a few courses about it himself. He also was the one who exposed me to music in the first place.
During my teen years I wrote songs and sang lead for my own Pop band before deciding to go out on my https://www.tradebit.com highlight of this group was when bandmember Kenji Hino, now a prominent musical force in Japan, arranged for us to tape a Japanese TV program with his father, the legendary Jazz trumpeter, Teramasu https://www.tradebit.comt was so much fun! We even taped a radio show for WBAI about my music (Gotta find that tape!).
College was certainly helpful because I met Thea Musgrave, a renowned Classical/Opera composer under whom I studied the fine arts of composition and https://www.tradebit.com studied under the greatest composition teacher of the twentieth century( her students include Aaron Copland and Quincy Jones), Nadia Boulanger. Yup, she turned down GERSHWIN as a student!! True story.
By the year 2000, I finished my first CD "Castle of Dreams" but I deemed it unworthy to release because there were so many things wrong with it in my opinion. So after a little local press and playing for the Songwriters Hall of Fame showcase for unsigned writers, I sat on it and went to Germany to play a few gigs.
When I returned, I took some time off and then in 2003, I decided to make the album I really wanted to make: a fully- realized Pop album that contains some of my very best material that is laden with smooth vocals, orchestral strings and woodwinds supported by all the instruments I personally played. So three years later, I look back at all the string and oboe scores I wrote for the songs, the few musicians I was blessed to work with, the money spent which could actually get me a car if I wanted (even though I don''t drive), the long but joyous studio hours, and now the website! Not bad at all...
But the journey MUST continue...
