MP3 Chancellorpink - Darkrazor

A soulful haunted house of 19 rooms filled with lost dreams, feigned machismo, drunken hope, penitent isolation and unrequited longing. The Beatles'' white album, dressed in black.

19 MP3 Songs
POP: Power Pop, ROCK: Modern Rock

Details:
What do we do when the people we care for the most, the people we gave so many years of our lives to, those we invested our hopes and dreams in...never miss us when we go away? Never hope for our return? Never really cared to know us at all?

For his second release, Chancellorpink has resurrected the anti-hero Darkrazor, the sneering, brazen, pathetic poet of the lonely and dejected. The voice of all losers who should have won, but just couldn’t seem to make enough of the right moves at crucial moments.

Darkrazor, the record, is a journey, a dark tapestry of indie and power pop dirge, of longing so thick and bloody you can pour it on your almond ice cream or into your morning coffee, before heading back into your coffin.

Chancellorpink put his heart and soul into 19 little songs, little children. They left his body and flew away. Some limped. Others crawled. Out into the world, up from the water turned to wine. Back down into the isolated darkness of our minds.

Out of the darkness came beauty. And so into the darkness we must go to find it.

Darkrazor.

The Chancellor''s not so dark and mysterious, really.

Chancellorpink is the solo project of Ray McLaughlin -- songwriter, vocalist, multi-instrumentalist, producer, lawyer and father of triplets from Pittsburgh, PA. McLaughlin started composing songs at age 7 by singing into a tape recorder, and he has written over 1,000 songs in his lifetime. His initial band, Six Gun Jury, made springy, post-punk, melodic guitar rock, drawing comparisons to The Smiths, R.E.M. and U2.

After completing law school, McLaughlin all but dropped out of the public music scene. He continued writing songs, however, occasionally performing in bands with fellow musicians (i.e., Orange Velvet Chairs, Spinning Jenny).

In 2006, McLaughlin became determined to redefine his musical career, re-emerging from the shadows all dressed in pink because he thinks he has something good to share with you. You see, he feels things, and he wants you to feel them too.

In May 2006, he released his eponymous solo debut and vowed to "record an album a year until I die or become boring." Chancellorpink, the album, contains 12 literate, indie pop/rock songs, carefully crafted yet concise, all written, produced and recorded by The Chancellor.

In December 2006, The Chancie Baby was signed to Wax Electric Recordings following favorable response to both his live acoustic performances and debut album. April 2007 brought about the release of the 19-track Darkrazor, which McLaughlin describes as "a haunted house with 19 rooms; my Beatles’ white album, only it’s black."

What''s Chancellorpink sound like? Listen. Otherwise, how about like the color of a life that lets you out? How about like a hopeful but ultimately broken heart drinking coffee alone every morning, after wine alone each night?

The Chancellor is a bit of a recluse, preferring the writing and recording of lonely and lost indie pop songs to rock star BS glamour, but he continues to play out sporadically, acoustically and often unannounced in support of his music. MySpace friends are familiar with his continuing blogs and bulletins of poetry and opinion. And for the extra curious, his website includes “100 Things About The Chancellor”, a charming group of personal anecdotes about The Chancie Baby.

With Chancellorpink, however, the real story’s in the songs.
