His Last Bow (1917). The book includes eight stories about Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson. The interests of England are in the hands of international spies, who spent years undercover. Von Bork is the most successful agent of Berlin. He already has the files on many important topics, but his best informant has yet to deliver the crucial information from the Admiralty. If Von Bork succeeds, he will change the destiny of Great Britain forever (“His Last Bow”). One of the most dangerous classes in the world is the drifting and friendless woman. She is the most harmless and often the most useful of mortals, but she is the inevitable inciter of crime in others. She is helpless… I much fear that some evil has come to the Lady Frances Carfax, says Holmes. But no matter how inventive the criminals are, Holmes’s genius can prevent the murder (“The Disappearance of Lady Frances Carfax”). An middle-aged woman receives a small package by mail. Imagine her horror, when she opens it to find a cardboard box … and two human ears, packed in coarse salt! She thinks she might be a prank victim: three young medical students rented the apartments from her several years ago, and she got rid of them because they were too noisy. Unfortunately, the truth is much more ominous (“The Adventure of the Cardboard Box”). Dr. Watson is desperate - Sherlock Holmes is very sick. Watson thinks his friend has lost his mind and is close to death. All he knows that Holmes has been working among Chinese sailors down in the docks, where he likely contracted one of the Eastern diseases. What really happened to ever so cautious detective? (“The Adventure of the Dying Detective”). Read this and other stories about mature detective in the book “His Last Bow.” The mix of British and foreign characters and settings make the ending of each case totally unpredictable.
