Details:
Flashback to 1997, the year Ruby Rendrag jumped off the path to getting a “real job” and onto the frustrating yet deeply satisfying road to become a full-time musician.
Ruby would spend the next 7 years co-fronting and co-writing with other local New Orleans bands and singing or playing backup guitar for other local artists. The constant urging from fans and friends to go solo finally took root in 2005, but her first year as a solo artist brought about constant interruptions with first the death of her Mother followed by the near death of her city. Ruby’s first album rightly titled, Interrupted, contains 7 of the 10 songs that made it through Katrina. The storm separated her band mates and put off the release of “Interrupted” until March 2007.
When the water receded Ruby Rendrag began her solo career, yet again, in November 2006. New band members, Cellist Suki Kuehn and Drummer Louis Carrillo, brought a new format and a new sound.
This unique trio has since performed over 35 shows and, in one year, went from coffee shops to opening spots for national acts such as Heart and Tim Reynolds.
Fans describe Ruby’s music as truly original. That original sound takes it elements from Led Zeppelin, Dave Matthews, Cold Play, The The, The Smiths, The Cure, Gary Numan and too many more to name. Regardless, most people don’t make comparisons and seem to prefer calling the music of Ruby Rendrag “New and fresh, but definitely Rock, but now with a Cello”. Ruby would describe her songwriting as “The absolute truth”. Look for Ruby Rendrag’s new sound and new album, Long Way Up, in May of 2007.
