A few generations after Jonah, the ancient Hebrew prophet Nahum delivers another message of impending doom to the people of Nineveh, capitol city of the ancient Assyrian empire. In beautiful language, but graphic and unsettling terms, Nahum foretells an end to the Lord''s patience with a violent, imperialistic nation. The prophet predicts a siege, a flood, and the bloody and fiery annihilation of the Ninevites. Unusually sonic in his imagery, Nahum''s oracle describes galloping warhorses, clattering chariots, clashing swords, roaring lions, wailing refugees, whirlwinds, storms, and widespread panic. The prophesy was fulfilled to the letter when Nineveh fell to the combined forces of the Babylonians, Medes, and Scythians in 612 BC. Nahum (Annihilation Mix 1.1) channels the essence of this prophesy through a six-string electric Viper-Viola.
What a Friend: Electric Improvisations on an American Hymn was recorded sometime after 4 a.m. on May 31, 2004 following a night of intense free jazz at New York City''s Vision Festival.

ABOUT DAVID WALLACE:
A faculty member of the Juilliard School and a Senior Teaching Artist at the New York Philharmonic, David Wallace has been broadcast as a soloist on National Public Radio, CBS and ABC television, WQXR radio''s McGraw Hill Young Artist''s Showcase, and gospel music radio show Live from the Lamb''s. David''s concert appearances include performances with the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, a recital for the New York Viola Society, the New York premiere of Stefano Gervasoni''s Viola Concerto in Alice Tully Hall, a 20-concert Visiting Artist''s Residency in Saginaw, Michigan, and collaborations with multi-instrumentalist and composer Mark O''Connor.
An avid chamber musician, David has performed for the Bridgehampton Chamber Music Festival, Taos Chamber Music Festival, the Museum of Modern Art''s Summergarden Series, Mark O''Connor''s Fiddle Camp and Strings Conference, SONIC BOOM, CONTINUUM, Summer Music (Des Moines), 20th Century Music and On, Music Under Construction, Bowdoin, Encore, Musicorda, Cascade Head, and the Texas Music Festival.
David has composed or improvised music for fifteen professional New York theater productions, arranged and recorded violin solos for PBS television''s Frontier House miniseries, and transmogrified dozens of Texas swing and jazz standards as the violinist of The Doc Wallace Trio, which released its debut album Live at the Living Room in 2001. David''s compositions include solo caprices, electric fantasias, polyrhythmic etudes, and songs. Recently fulfilled commissions include chamber works for inner-city children, a sextet for the New York Philharmonic''s Education Department, an electronic work for the Juilliard School''s centennial, and a double bass solo for his compositional mentor, Jon Deak. He has received awards from ASCAP and the American Music Center.
As a Teaching Artist in the New York Philharmonic''s radical Very Young Composers Program, David serves as "scribe and cheerleader" for ''ordinary'' 3rd through 5th graders who compose original works for New York Philharmonic musicians. Additionally, David holds multi-year residencies through the Philharmonic''s School Partnership Program, in which classes compose and perform works ranging from plastic recorder blues rhapsodies to Baroque concerti grossi. In 2002, David''s numerous creative contributions were honored with the first annual $10,000 McGraw-Hill Companies'' Robert Sherman Award for Music Education and Community Outreach, awarded to musicians who have distinguished themselves as artists and educators.
David received his Doctor of Musical Arts with the Richard French Prize from the Juilliard School, where he served as Assistant to Karen Tuttle.
