Currently based in Toronto, Andrea Wappel doesn’t fit into the standard mold of the female singer-songwriter. She embraces a harder, grittier sound that does not pull punches. She is unabashed, and makes no apologies for her lyrical content whether it deals with romantic fallacies or darkened perceptions of day-to-day living.
With influences such as AC/DC, Led Zeppelin Ani DiFranco and Annie Lennox, Andrea’s music draws from blues and elements of jazz to straight-up in your face power chord rock. Her music threads together different instrumentation as she skillfully plays the guitar and piano. But it is not her playing ability that sets her apart from her contemporaries, but rather a voice that is powerful and compelling, allowing her to belt out lyrics with complete control and drop down to her lower register for a resonance that continues long after it’s over.
