Unrepresented is the sixth installment in the ongoing musical mind-dump of Andy Harper. Situated in his cozy but well equipped home studio, Andy continues to reveal the curiously clever places he likes to take his songs. The recording process for this release (and those prior) is what brings these compositions to life. In Andy''s words, each of these songs are "their own entities which have lived and died, within the span of four to five hours". He writes while recording and therefore is able to deliver to you a completely original musical thought. Songs that aren''t scrutinized, written and re-written, produced and over produced, songs that were born in a moment and documented digitally, purely. If you''ve ever wondered what music sounds like the very moment its being written, you''ll wonder no more.
Unrepresented marked a great period of "compositional acuteness" as Andy says. The technical aspects of getting these songs recorded were finely tuned and "the studio was stacked" as it goes. So these songs all have very solid structures, though some are linear. The lyrical content is a little more direct on this record than other records from Andy, and songs like Patterns of Consumption and Required Redundancy show his willingness to get deeply real in composition. Never one to shy away from putting it all out there, Andy delivers another inspired, well constructed, melodically delicious record with Unrepresented.
