Details:
"Traditional acoustic music in the Celtic tradition." Jacque Rapp, Shanda McDonald, Thea Rapp Slavin, Kathy Dagg and Gileigh McDonald are Calliope House, an Oklahoma based quintet fluent in traditional Celtic, old-time, blues and folk traditions. Coming from four different bands that were all part of the Oklahoma City traditional music scene since the early 80’s, they formed Calliope House in October of 2002.
All talented multi-instrumentalists, they draw inspiration not only from the Irish trad bands of the 20th century, but from the American folk genres as well. Irish flute and whistles, fiddle, hammered dulcimer, piano, accordion, mandolin, bouzouki, cittern, guitar and percussion, along with distinctive vocal interpretations, form a rich and varied musical tapestry. Powerful, driving dance tunes contrast with achingly beautiful airs and songs. "Splendid Isolation," their first release, is inspired by the title of the Brendan McGlinchey tune composed by him after a weekend of total musical immersion.
Calliope House serves up a satisfying Celtic-infused feast.
