Details:
Cat Coward releases her debut album with all the sophistication and panache of a seasoned jazz vocalist. With a classical vocal background and a near 4 octave range, Cat brings a beautiful and soothing element to her jazz style. Fans describe "Out of the Bag" as eclectic in appreciation of the wide variety of tunes on the CD. From the sultry Dietrich-esque “More Than You Know”, to Cat’s playful rendition of Cole Porter’s “Let’s Misbehave”, or her jazz twist on Pete Seeger’s popular “Turn, Turn, Turn”, Cat inspires listeners to play her CD over and over again. Cat’s instrumentation of tasteful piano, bass, drums, and sax is perfectly suited to her songs. Her playful and seductive energy make this CD a must-have in any jazz collection.

Cat was born and raised in the San Francisco Bay Area, and lived in a variety of places such as Colorado, Texas and Maine, before settling in Anchorage, Alaska. She is very involved in the Anchorage music scene, and is the founder of “Jazz for a Cause – Musicians and Neighbors in Concert for our Community”, an annual blacktie event that raises funds for local community organizations in need. Cat and her band provide the musical entertainment for the house party, which has raised $11,000 in each of the past two years, benefiting an Anchorage soup kitchen, and an abused women’s shelter.

In addition to her busy career in music, Cat also works part time as a physical therapist, full time as the mom of a bright and spirited 7 year old, and is married to “the most wonderfully supportive man a girl could ask for”. She is an avid telemark and skate skier, hiker, rafter, trail runner, and overall outdoors woman. “All my experiences ultimately influence my music,” she says. “The more varied the experiences, the better the music.”

REVIEWS:

Cat Coward is a truly gifted jazz singer. Her style is all her own with echoes of Ella. "Cat Out of the Bag" is a real gem. From the opening notes, you know you''re in on to something special. The phrasing and tone are silky smooth, lyrical, and full of life and talent. My favorite tunes are "My Love Is", "I Can See Clearly Now" (the jazz interpretation is a total treat), and "Twisted" - I love "Twisted" so much that I think I''m going to give it to my shrink!

A new hot vocal soloist is currently melting the hearts of jazz aficionados across the cool North. Cat Coward, a sultry siren with jazz in her soul has assimilated a wide range of energy-driven masterpieces from Cole Porter''s "Let''s Misbehave" to the more familiar but brilliant rendition of Pete Seeger''s "Turn, Turn, Turn". Her colorful tapestry of vocals embodies a style that is wonderfully woven with threads of improvisational lightness and a melodic expression that is frankly jaw-dropping. Cat''s dizzying flair for jazz is fine wine that must now be tasted!
