THE CD:

Cheryl Bear''s self titled CD

A new contemporary First Nations Christian Worship CD by a Native American worship leader and recording artist.

This CD was a healing for Cheryl. At the time this CD came out she and her husband Randy were pastoring the Street Church, The Downtown Eastside Foursquare Church in Vancouver, BC, Canada.

This neighbourhood is known as the poorest neighbourhood in all of Canada.

There are many First Nations living in the Eastside of Vancouver.

This CD came out of Street Church. A place where the people are as real as they get. We went there to change the world and instead found that it changed us.

THE SONGS:

Drum Doxology
...is from my time at Street Church and Regent College. Every morning during Theology I with Dr. J.I. Packer, we would sing the Doxology and I came to love that class, that prof and that song. One day I got a tune in my head and out came the Doxology part of it.

Then, I thought we needed to IndigenIZE this song for our First Nations people and eventually it came together.

One day I was heading out the door when a chant popped into my head. I sang it a few times and knew it would disappear in my short memory so I saved it on our answering machine.
Later my family listened to it and we decided that it was a beauty of a chant, we added the music and Graham Ord added his magic, (his magical musicial stylings) and it turned out better than we had ever imagined! Thanks to Jamie Sitar (mastering) for bringing the drums to life. I truly believe Creator gave me this chant.

Creator, Father
... this song came from my desire to help our people understand the Creator Father, Son and Holy Spirit. Trinitarian theology is beautiful, we see the harmony in the Trinity and we can and are beckoned to join this holy dance.

Again, this song tells our people that Jesus reveals Creator Spirit to us.

Heal Me
... this song came from grief.
It is a mourning song because "Ah-na-na" is a grief chant.

We Native people too often hear this cry on the long walk to the graveyard. Our people are well acquainted with grief. In my own life I have struggled greatly with the deaths of my dear loved ones.

This cry is to the Creator, the One who can Heal. I have received healing from writing and singing this song.

I long
... this is the first song I ever wrote. It came out of a time of deep longing to know God and to feel the presence of the Great Mystery.
