MP3 Central Standard Time - What I Know Now

The third disc from Iowa folk group CST takes some of the quirky awesomeness of Second Whisper and some of the exuberant mellifluosity of Folksinging and creates a whole new experience that would, alas, require a whole new word to describe.

Music can be hard to define or categorize. How do you place a universal label on something that is so fluid, that can have such different meaning for different people? How do you place a certain musician or a certain song into one single box?

There''s no good way to do that. Central Standard Time performs music. They write most of it themselves. What do people call it? What do Matt and Charlie call it themselves? Could be folk music, or roots music, or Americana. It could be called acoustic pop, contemporary folk, or country. Some people might even consider it easy listening. Sometimes Central Standard Time calls their music "college folk." But what''s in a label, really? What''s in a genre? What''s in a particular style?

More importantly, what''s in a song? Central Standard Time''s songs may not always fit neatly into particular categories, but their songs are always full of meaning, full of feeling. Matt Hibbard and Charlie Rod, who together are the duo Central Standard Time, pour their hearts and souls into their songs. Each lyric, each phrase, each note is an expression of who they are as individuals and as a duo. Every song gives the listener a tiny glimpse into the writer''s being.

Central Standard Time is Matt Hibbard and Charlie Rod, a duo of singer-songwriters from eastern Iowa. Together they paint a vivid musical picture, swirling with catchy melodies, fluid harmonies, and intertwining guitar arrangements.

Their music draws on influences from John Denver, the Beatles, Storyhill, Simon & Garfunkel, Peter, Paul & Mary, Bob Dylan, John Prine and other folk music greats. While the songs are new, they are steeped in the American folk tradition. CST often plays songs by those and other wonderful musicians.

Matt and Charlie met as counselors at Bible camp in the summer of 1993. Their friendship became strong, and from it grew a musical collaboration that continued during later summers at camp, throughout their college years and beyond. They have been sharing their particular brand of music with audiences across Iowa and the Midwest since 1994.
