Here’s the part where my musical career is to be described in third person. I guess it’s supposed to make you sound more professional; like someone really important likes your music and your story and so they decide to write about you. If I had someone write about me I think I would choose Encyclopedia Britannica. They seem to be credible.

Unfortunately Encyclopedia Britannica doesn’t want to write my bio so here’s my version. I was born and raised in the Reading, PA area. I remember singing Beatles and Monkees songs to myself on the school bus in kindergarten. I remember music being in my head when I’d go to sleep and when I’d wake up. I remember my dad playing guitar all the time and playing music while he worked outside. I think I really like music. In high school I dreamed of moving to California and becoming some famous rock star like Dave Grohl or Anthony Kiedis. At Penn State I studied Chemical Engineering and German. I think I picked ChE because it was one of the hardest majors and people would be more impressed if they knew that I was studying such a thing. I had a nice time. I was sort of a hermit; introverted maybe. I considered going to grad school. I did go to grad school. I liked the idea of it because it made me feel smart. One time I went to grad school for three weeks at Arizona State for Materials Science. I left because I wanted to become a Pastor. I went to Pittsburgh and worked with Pr. Andy Clark and Adventist Community Services to gain experience for my new career. I was inspired by how huge God was. My musical passions also grew. I first visited an open mic in Pittsburgh in December 2005 at Shadow Lounge. In the spring there were more open mics and then shows, and then lots of new people; people who were filled with good things; people who inspired me to pursue my passions. Their lives were examples to me; examples that said it was ok to pursue music; that music wasn’t a silly thing that you’re only supposed to do as a hobby. I believe it’s possible to have a career that is your passion. In time a year had gone by in Pittsburgh and it was summer 2006. I enrolled in a Ph.D. program for Chemical Engineering at the University of Delaware. I felt that people would look down upon me if I didn’t go to grad school. I went for a semester. I liked it. The subject was challenging and interesting; but music kept tugging at me. I was being torn in too many directions. I felt that if I continued with grad school, I might never give music a shot. I was scared to pursue music. It’s not very stable you know. Grad school offered health insurance, a somewhat clear future, financial stability and status. It was easier for me to stay in grad school. I left grad school in December 2006. My name is Erich Mace and I’m a musician.

Having already played highly esteemed Philadelphia venues including Grape Street Philadelphia, Milkboy Coffee, Steel City Coffeehouse and World Café Live, Erich has enjoyed moderate success as a new musician. His music can be described as acoustic/folk with melodic vocal layers and finger style guitar. It has an earthy, raw feel flavored with positive and empowering lyrics and has been compared to the work of Leo Kottke, Jack Johnson and Radiohead.
