So you want an honest answer? You really want to know the truth behind what makes this band tick? Two years ago Flinch decided to take on a project much bigger than the band itself. This project consisted of two goals:
1. They wanted to record a new album.
2. They wanted to have the time and resources to make this album they way they wanted.
With limited funds and no experience, they began building their own recording studio in the hopes that they could quickly record an album. The only problem was no one in the band had any experience in recording engineering, and they certainly had no experience in construction. So, the journey began. After hours and hours of research, discussions, and drawings, the band began to build what would become F&F Studios. The whole construction process took about five months. There were many mistakes made and many heated arguments, but by the fall of 2004 F&F Studios was finally finished. The band quickly fell in love with their new place. Rehearsals started and songs began to take shape. Now that the studio was built they felt as though they had conquered the world. The only problem was no one had any experience as a recording engineer. Thus began the long process of researching the art of recording, mixing, and most importantly what kind of equipment to buy on a limited budget. After months of research and continued writing, the recording process started to take shape. They continued to read about their favorite producers and engineers. They listened to hundreds of cds, simply to try and match the sounds they heard with the sounds they wanted. After many retakes, the first song was complete. This was a huge moment for the band. It sparked a new energy, and for the next six months they wrote and recorded their new album. By the end of January 2006 the album was just about finished. The spent the next couple of months mixing and mastering, trying so hard to get the album to sound just the way they wanted. By the spring of 2006 National Champs was complete. After being together for six years and this being the bands third album, this was the proudest moment of their careers. They had done everything on their own on a limited budget and practically no experience.
"This is a great album." says Nathan (singer/guitarist)
"It''s an honest album. But most importantly it''s an album that was made strictly for the music. No gimicks, no weird effects, just good ole'' guitars, drums, vocals, and bass. I am so proud to be a part of this."
