So who IS Judas Feet, anyway? And how did they ever get THAT name? Good questions. Let me answer the second one first. Then let me introduce you to the Reads.

First, the name. Why name a group after the most hated human to ever walk the planet (at least for a Christian, he''s the most hated)? His name was Judas. He was one of 12 men who followed Jesus around Israel for more than 3 years about 2000 years ago. Jesus had come "and preached peace" as the bible says, yet the more he did it, the more the political and religious elite hated him, so much so that they wanted him dead. Enter Judas. He struck a deal with a group of religious elitists for 30 pieces of silver. He was to turn his leader, Jesus, over to them at the opportune moment....late at night, before the festival of passover began.

But, before the "betrayal", Jesus gathered his 12 followers together in a small room to observe the passover meal. The passover meal is full of symbolism which he told them pointed to himself as he compared the bread to his body and the wine to his blood that would soon be spilled as a sacrifice for the sins of the world. As the disciples entered that small room, Jesus disrobed himself, took a towel and a bowl of water, and he washed each man''s feet to further symbolize that he came not to BE served but TO serve. They were to follow his example.

ALL the disciples that night received a foot washing...even Judas....even though he had evil in his heart...even though, within hours, he would turn Jesus over to die...even though he could''ve changed his mind, but didn''t...even though for 20+ centuries now, his is the most hated, despised name in all of Christendom. Still, Jesus washed his feet to demonstrate the incredible grace and servanthood that his followers were supposed to perform as well. In naming our band, we don''t so much want to identify ourselves with Judas, but are here to confess that we, too, have corruption in our hearts and are far from perfect and need the grace of Jesus as much as Judas needed it - and we lean heavily upon that grace. Our feet, like those disciples that night, are in need of washing. We''ve found a fantastic poem written in the 1920''s that says it all:

THE FEET OF JUDAS

by: George Marion McClellan

HRIST washed the feet of Judas!
The dark and evil passions of his soul,
His secret plot, and sordidness complete,
His hate, his purposing, Christ knew the whole,
And still in love he stooped and washed his feet.

Christ washed the feet of Judas!
Yet all his lurking sin was bare to him,
His bargain with the priest, and more than this,
In Olivet, beneath the moonlight dim,
Aforehand knew and felt his treacherous kiss.

Christ washed the feet of Judas!
And so ineffable his love ''twas meet,
That pity fill his great forgiving heart,
And tenderly to wash the traitor''s feet,
Who in his Lord had basely sold his part.

Christ washed the feet of Judas!
And thus a girded servant, self-abased,
Taught that no wrong this side the gate of heaven
Was ever too great to wholly be effaced,
And though unasked, in spirit be forgiven.

And so if we have ever felt the wrong
Of trampled rights, of caste, it matters not,
What e''er the soul has felt or suffered long,
Oh, heart! this one thing should not be forgot:
Christ washed the feet of Judas.

"The Feet of Judas" is reprinted from The Book of American Negro Poetry. Ed. James Weldon Johnson. New York: Harcourt, Brace and Co., 1922.

Now for the band. Three parts make the whole of Judas Feet. Each member is accomplished as an individual, but together they''re better. Here''s some bit of scoop on each of the Judas Feet siblings - as they''re known in these parts, the Read kids. We welcome questions if you''d like to know more info. We are:

Diana (19) uses her angelic voice to blend like a smoothie with Tommy''s vocals as either the front or backup. She grew up singing in church and school but couldn''t bear to keep doing the karaoke thing (and rightfully so!) to tracks. Enter little bro and little sis Tommy and Hannah who have excelled at multiple instruments. Add a home-cooked digital studio and Diana becomes the perfect front for a near perfect set of siblings who all enjoy each other''s company even more than they enjoy playing mucho music together.

Diana''s a sophomore at Baylor University in Waco, TX. She is studying Sociology and speaks Russian. She used to attend church at UBC, the famed home of The David Crowder Band (which she loved), but her heart has led her to the more humble "Church Under The Bridge". Yes, that''s right, this church meets on Sunday mornings under the I-35 Bridge just off the Baylor campus. It''s a crazy gathering - college preppies and profs standing, sitting, and drinking hot chocolate alongside Waco''s homeless and underpriveleged. You should be there on a cold, rainy Sunday morning - it''s a beautiful site.

Tommy (17) taught himself guitar as an 11 year old who was not much bigger than his dad''s Martin six string. Once he pretty much got that down, he discovered that he could pick up most any stringed instrument, analyze it for a while and figure out how to make people think he''s been playing for his whole life. He''s currently a senior in high school trying to decide what to study in college. He''s equally adept at video producing as he is at music. What''s a creative talent to do?

Hannah (15) can hardly wait to drive. Meantime, she''s mostly content to drive Judas Feet''s acoustic live performances with her cello playing. Borrowed from an uncle and taught (so far) by herself, she''s becoming quite a cellist. Maybe the symphony''s in her future. Maybe Judas Feet''s in her future. Whatever''s in her future, it''ll probably include an incredibly high level of the same excellence she demonstrates in every endevour today as a high school freshman.
