LOREN
SPIRIT and TRUTH, Chapters I & II
Scheduled Release: May 29, 2007

When asked to differentiate his current project from those he has done in the past, Loren says, “My whole approach to writing and producing has changed since my first solo release “I’ll Meet You There” (1993) and the follow up “In His Shadow” (2000). “Spirit and Truth” is a project that is much more interactive, leaning heavily on the praise and worship stylings that have become a staple in contemporary church services. What we have created on this project is a collection of songs that we hope will be sung by
congregations long after our tour comes to town.”

While music has always been a big part of his life, it is only one of Loren’s many endeavors. An attorney by trade, Loren is a tenured professor at the Middle Tennessee State University, where he teaches Copyright Law, Legal Problems in the Recording Industry, Survey of the Recording Industry, and Commercial Songwriting in the nation’s leading Recording Industry program. He is also an adjunct professor at Oakwood College where he teaches Business Law and Organizational Ethics. On “Spirit and Truth” this multi-talented fellow who was called a “renaissance man” by Billboard Magazine, has delivered a project that has appeal for every age, gender, and racial demographic. “I became the praise and worship leader at my home church two years ago and the experience has really altered my approach to music ministry,” says Loren, who serves as Minister of Music at Hillcrest S.D.A. Church in Nashville, Tennessee. “Much of this album was written and produced with the church worship service in mind.” The songs range from exuberant praise songs…to contemplative songs of worship…to traditional hymns arranged to expose listeners to Loren’s voice in a fluid unadorned soundscape.

On the first release from his newly launched indie label, Blackstone Records, Loren leaves no room for musical dissatisfaction. “I have been touring and singing for church audiences since I was a teenager and I have a good feel for what the church audience looks like,” he explains. “This album will be attractive to the kids, the young adults, the contemporary-leaning praise and worshippers, and the more conservative older listeners.”
The song list on this stylistically balanced set includes the singles “He Never
Changes”, a bouncy praise song that includes a special guest vocal that is guaranteed to bring a smile to your face. The Latin Caribbean vibe of “My Soul Desires You” promises to be a favorite for listeners above and below the equator. This catchy hook will have you singing long after the song is done. “The Lord’s Prayer” uses a unique minimalist production approach that features driving vocals over drums and percussion. Other up-tempo hits include the funky “O Most High” and the fiery “What He’s Done” (which serves as one half of the lead single shipped to radio on 3/31/06).

The worship songs include future songbook material such as “Still The Same” (the other song on the lead radio single), which will have the entire congregation singing after one time through the chorus, with the powerful message that God is the same yesterday, today and forevermore, He will do just what he says, He’s still the same. “Glory, Honor & Praise” blends the best of classic Philly soul with contemporary worship lyrics and arrangements, and is destined to be a favorite for worship services worldwide. “He Rose Again” will quickly vault to the front of the line for those looking for powerful lyrics bathed in a beautiful melody with the musical sophistication to be a favorite for many years to come. The listener here is poignantly reminded that though our Savior did nothing to deserve his fate on the cross, He died just for you and me, and more importantly, He rose again and is alive today! Two impeccably crafted solo songs top off part one of the project. “I Can’t Wait” has the intimacy of a true one on one conversation with Christ, as Loren’s soulful passion is adorned simply with an acoustic guitar and percussion track as he lets you know “I can’t wait to see His face”. As if that weren’t enough, “Put The Weight on My Shoulders”, is an unforgettable song and performance, which will undoubtedly reach multiple formats both inside and outside of the church.

Those eleven songs would be enough to make this one of the most note-worthy releases of 2006…but Loren does not stop there. Chapter two of “Spirit and Truth” is a seven-song collection of classic hymns produced in a shimmering simplicity with the intimacy of vocal/piano or vocal/acoustic guitar arrangements. Highlights include the acoustic guitar
performance on “Tell Me The Story of Jesus”, the rich vocal textures of “Draw Me Nearer”, and Loren’s soothing tenor on “I’d Rather Have Jesus”. As if we weren’t already in the mindset of heaven, wait until you hear the pleasant surprise on “It Is Well” and the soaring arrangement of “Holy, Holy, Holy” which closes the album in epic fashion.

In “Spirit and Truth”, Loren has created a groundbreaking album sure to be in heavy rotation on iPods, CD players, and radio stations everywhere. In Loren, we have found an unforgettable artist with a message that the world will sing along for years to come!
