EASY LISTENING: Soft Rock, BLUES: Guitar Blues

Details:
This album’s got an assorted blend -- a mix of blues, soft rock, gospel, and a dose of electrifying guitars -- his sound is his own. With soulful bluesy guitar notes and a soft but slightly gritty voice (many have said with a similarity to Mark Knopfler), you’ll be pleasantly surprised by it’s fresh grooves and variety of genre’s. His songs speak of his struggles and passions in his life-- love, friends, family, surfing and the beauty of nature-- all things that many of us can relate to. Enjoy........

This talented guitarist/singer/songwriter was born and raised in the beautiful Hawaiian Islands. Born on Maui in 1949, he was a teenager during the “flower-power” rock-n-roll 60’s era. Picking up the guitar at age 14, he was immersed in the British & American blues movement and the now dubbed “oldies” rock of that era and all that went along with that time in history.

After finding some peace in his life and starting a family, Michael and his former wife started recording with gospel label BG Records out of LA. Starting in 1974, they explored a life on the road with their 3 young sons, sharing their music in churches all across the U.S. They released 3 albums in ‘74, ‘77 & ‘80 with two songs rising to the top of gospel radio in Tennessee and Washington.

In 1980, after 6 years on the road, he returned home- back to the green mountains and crystal blue waters of Maui. He continued to write and perform with local favorites like Bla Pahinui and Jesse Nakooka. Two years later, leaving Maui to go to Oahu was yet another move he made to continue making music his life. As time went on, he knew he had to get a “day job” to support his family but never gave up his passion for writing and performing his music.

He returned to CA in 1984 to the sleepy coastal town of Ventura where he spent the next 19 years. After getting married to his new wife Colleen in 1994, he formed a band called “Maui Blues” with his good friend Ralph Mathis (yes, we’re dropping names here--Johnny Mathis’ brother) and returned to his love of blues and rock-- performing nights (after his "day job") and weekend gigs at local venues. All this time, his desire to return to the islands only grew stronger and in 2003, he and and his wife returned to Oahu. He never stopped writing new material and now the time had come to share it with whoever would listen. Two years later, he got serious and recorded 12 songs and released his debut album “Maui To Miller Street” in the first part of 2007.
