"AAU" (Please Come): This is Sunil’s second album after a long gap & his second collaboration with veteran Guitarist Kishor Gurung. This album contains Sunil’s 8 very personal songs. 7 out of the 8 songs are written by him and 6 of them are composed by him. Personal also due to the fact that it took so long to come up with this album and the writing & composition of these songs took even longer.

My songs are your songs. It is as much a part of me as yours and here they are:
“AAU”, this song was written & composed around 1994 and re-written several times afterwards. This song is about being single, lonely & wanting to be with someone. The writer has his imagination about this beautiful person and how happy he would be if that right person came into his life. It is a romantic song meant for everyone sometime in their life. This Song''s rhythm & beat is influenced by the ever popular Caribbean style of music.
Note: Listen to Mohan Karki''s Violin solo at the opening of the song, it''s neat! Also, listen to Kishor''s Acoustic Guitar solo it''s lovely!
“Asaar Ko Mahina”, this was written and composed around 1992. It was re-written again in 1996, 1997 & 1998. These are the type of songs I cherish a lot. This has to do with the MONSOON season, our agrarian traditions of rice planting, harvesting and festivities that come before and in between. There are categories of folk tunes in Nepal such as Jhyaure, Tamang Selo, Gaine Geet and this is a typical folk called “Asaare”, off course little modernized by including Bass, Keyboard, etc. This song was inspired by our beautiful culture & events like visiting the Machindra Jatra* and Bhoto Jatra every year during my childhood growing up in and around Jawalakhel. I’m happy about being a part of this culture and also glad I could write a song about this beautiful season & festival. Nowadays, with TV and FM Stations all over the country this festival is gaining bigger momentum which makes me happy.
*Machindra Jatra (Machindra Festival) – Machindranath, Buddhist deity of water & rain. Revered by medieval kings in Kathmandu Valley as Guardian deity of Kathmandu Valley. Machindranath was also said to have various other names such as Padampani, Lokeswor, Avalokiteswor, Aryavalokotiswar, Karunamaya and was also regarded as Fish Incarnation of Lokeswor hence known as Matsyendranath. Distinguished as Rato Machendranath (Red Machindranath) of Patan and Seto Machendranath (White Machindranath) of Kathmandu. Feted in various festivals like Bhotojatra and public bathing ritual.

“Priti Ko Jharna”, these words were first put in paper by my friend Subas Bista back in 1982. Ravi Pradhan a friend of mine and I composed the music in 1983. I was re-writing this song over and over until the spring of 1999 right before the recording, by then it was close to 18 years of writing. I loved the first line of the song, “Preeti Ko Zharna”, can you imagine a “Waterfall of Love”. I could never let go of this beautiful imagination by Subas. I thought his imagination back then was great and I still think it’s one of his best lines. This was one reason why I kept holding on to this song for as long as I did and managed to record it. Besides the first line and a couple of other words, majority of the song was re-written for the melody. With all this said and done the song is about the ever important word, LOVE.
“Narou Narou”, this song was written, composed and arranged by Kishor Gurung the master himself. This song had been around for a long time since I was a student of Kishors back in 1984. It’s about departure between two lovers and holding on to the memories and also hoping to get together some day. I thought the tune had great melody & lyrical content. The arrangement also turned out to be wonderful with the guitar and bass completely outstanding. I’m just glad & very lucky to be a part of this beautiful song.
Note: Kishor Gurung is a Graduate of San Francisco Conservatory of Music in Classical Guitar and also holds a Masters Degree in Ethnomusicology from the University of Hawai.
“Bhana Bhanana”, Written & composed around 1989 rewritten in 1990. This song is about reconciling and revamping an affair or a marriage. I was looking into other people’s expressions & feelings in writing songs on this theme. I’ve seen marriages & affairs break up everywhere. The important lesson you learn by listening to this song is that you need to have a dialogue with who ever you are having problems with, especially someone whom you care & have a beautiful relationship with.
“Phoote Ko Aina Ma”, a sentimental modern number written & composed in 1996 & 1997. It discusses on looking at broken mirrors, usually a taboo ingrained in a lot of people around the globe. The good luck and bad luck taboo, not something I believe in I was just playing around with the words and the tune. I decided to add in some romantic words and made it into a romantic song. I made it into a positive one at the end, regardless of the taboo one can still be together & have a wonderful time. This melody as a whole turned out to be nice while writing & composing and decided to record it.
“Hera Kati Ramro Phulabari”, a tune composed by my very good friend & a brother to me Shyam Lama, sometime in the early eighties (1981/82). This tune initially had no words to it. This was one of those tunes I could not let go off. I was always playing with the words, in fact a lot of words. There isn’t any tune that I have looked for words as hard as I have for this one. I had these words (Hera Kati Ramro Phulabari) lying around since 1991 but never thought it would be a good match for the tune. These words were written for my father and his beautiful garden. One day I finally decided to put the words & music together and here it is a beautiful song. The song tells you about Flowers and how happy flowers can make you during its short life span and the color it creates during different seasons. The song compares Flowers and Humans and also suggests that we must be like Flowers which can make everyone happy every where regardless of age, race, gender or the place on earth. This song is dedicated to my father who loved gardening and has been an inspiration to all of us who knew him and his love for gardening.
“Timi Aai Dina Le”, this is a song about relationship and how happy one can be with the right person coming into his/her life. All the sorrows, sadness & hardship can fade away and he/she can be rejuvenated with their love, happiness & relationship together. This song was written & composed back in 1987 and it is one of those songs which I didn’t have to re-write or re-tune. This song was recorded exactly the way it was composed back in 1987. The arrangement however is a different story it is arranged as Techno Music with lovely melody & lyrics. Techno for me was/is 1st of its kind I’d never done one before and haven''t done another since.
