"The New Cool" Southport is the first of four jazz CD''s released by Ron Surace. It is a collection of 12 original jazz compositions for traditional (acoustic) jazz rhythm section with added guest artist Ryan Shultz on bass trumpet. When released it was called "the Top of the Local Crop" by the Chicago Sun Times. Surace couldn''t have chosen a better team for his broadly diverse, impressionistic rhythmic interplay (Ann Klee/Midwest Jazz 1996).
