My name is Rosemarie Lumanog Schlater. I was was born and grew up in Olongapo City, Philippines. I am the oldest of 4 children. I began singing at the age of 4, at the urging of my mom. In my late teens and early 20s, I was a professional folk singer & guitarist for 7 years, performing 7 nights a week, predominantly in restaurants. My father was an alcoholic and very abusive verbally and physically. Because of that, I have learned to take drugs, smoke pot, drink alcohol and had many relationships. I got pregnant and had an abortion. It was the most painful moment of my life. My life went on and got pregnant again, but that time I’ve decided to keep the child. My boyfriend broke up with me because of that.
On August 14, 1984, I accepted Jesus Christ as my Savior, after being witnessed to by missionaries from Youth With A Mission (YWAM). The Lord saved many prostitutes and drug addicts through the YWAM street ministry that I was blessed to be a part of for the next 2 years, some of whom also became missionaries. In 1986 I married Tom Schlater, a sailor whom I met when he took leave to work with WYAM when his ship visited the Philippines. Tom & I have been singing and playing music together since then. Our music avocation has included presenting music in concerts and for many other events, including Christian ministry in several churches, Christian coffee houses, youth detention centers, Foodbanks, and more.
I was a worship leader for 3 years at Filipino Christian Church in Norfolk, and then for 2 years at Forest Edge Assembly of God in Columbus, Ohio. I was a member of the choir at Sonrise Community Church in Santee, Ca. for 3 years. My participation in the Worship Arts Ministry @ Grace Bible Church in Virginia Beach since 2001 has included membership in the Grace Singers & Praise Singers, participation in the Worship Dance Ministry, and Worship Leader for the Women''s Bible Study and for my Care group. I also sing in different Retirement/Nursing homes 4-8 times a month.
When I was hospitalized, the Lord inspired me to write new songs. Since 2003 I have been writing songs, some of which are recorded on my CD "You Are My All In All". I am also blessed to have my first son, Jason helped me recorded this CD and put some drums and bass tracks. I also like to thank Tom, my husband and Josiah, my second son for their lead guitar parts.
I experience joy, grace & blessing when I sing for Jesus. It is my hope and prayer that others will be blessed and draw closer to Him through my singing.
