BIOGRAPHY:

Based out of the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas comes singer/songwriter Ruth Ann Sharp. With her haunting, powerful vocals an audience can’t help but give attention to her striking, fresh sound.

Often described reminiscent of Joan Baez, with a twist of Jewel or a sprinkle of Alanis she manages to release a sound only described as distinctively unique. Her music reaches into a listener through sincere lyrics and carefully thought melody pleading for understanding with songs ranging from the sweetest lullaby to deepest betrayal.

In an entertainment world of over produced singers, Ruth brings new life to the simple elegance of an artful vocalist and combines it with solid acoustic guitar work to create her own passionate sound full of emotion.

Ruth grew up in a small town in central Utah with a large family of seven brothers and sisters. An often shy, no fuss child she never let her dreams of a musical future reach further than her imagination. Upon entering high school she discovered the joys of being on stage as she participated in many local theater productions. At age 16 she was given the part of Dolly Levi in the musical “Hello Dolly!” and the next year the lead as Nelly in “South Pacific”. It was through these early experiences she fell in love with the arts, gaining a special affection for entertainment.

She fell away from performing while attending college until the year 2000 when she participated in a group guitar course in search of a medium to showcase her vocal talent. She quickly advanced in the study of the instrument and began writing original music. Her beginnings include many performances at a local open mic night at Groovacious, a local record store. With much encouragement from the local music scene she blossomed and was invited to share her music for many local festivities including: Groovefest, Cedar City Arts Festival, Brian Head Arts Festival, First Night St. George and July Jamboree to mention a few.

Early in 2004 Ruth relocated to Las Vegas and quickly made an impression on local musicians as a great talent. In September 2004 she released a self produced album of original music titled “Little Miss Nowhere” consisting of her earliest compositions. With growing local support, she now enjoys sharing her music to eager audiences at many venues in Las Vegas and looks forward to national recognition which is just around the bend. With high hopes and determination she continues on…

THOUGHTS FROM THE ARTIST:

Personally, I''ve found pursuing a carreer in the music industry frustratingly difficult yet oddly addictive. The more it hurts me, the harder I fight for it.

This attitude has been my constant companion since I was a child. Growing up there wasn''t money for music lessons and it was not an encouraged career path especially for a female in Utah. Yet while my friends were interested in Baby Dolls, then clothes and hair and finally boys, I still remained a dreamer, daydreaming away hours pretending to be a singer wishing I could carry a tune. I had never gotten the oportunity to try until I was a teenager and auditioned for a high school musical. I was told by the director that I would never be suited for a lead vocal role. I was crushed but determined to prove him wrong. My junior year in I auditioned again. I was chosen to play the lead! You could say, I felt VENDICATED.

I have always wanted more than anything to perform my own music. Like most everything in my life this has proven to be difficult. I have struggled with severe performance anxiety most of my life. It has taken me 6 years to get a level of comfort infront of an audience. It is now becoming a rewarding challenge at each live show. I like to think that I get nervous because I care greatly about creating music and want others to enjoy it, which is a good thing.

"Little Miss Nowhere" as an album will always be special to me. These are the first songs I ever created and I love that they are a little rough around the edges. I worked hard on writing, performing, recording, mixing and finishing this CD by myself (for the most part). I am thankful to all those who encouraged me and helped me whether through advice, information or friendship I owe a great deal of gratitude to my hubby who has supported my music habit whole heartedly.

My next challenge is to improve upon myself as a performer and a recording artist. I am working dilligently on constantly creating new music and working up the courage and MONEY needed to move forward with my next recording project. I don''t know what the future holds for me and my music addiction but I do know that I can''t see myself in any other field.

Love,
Ruth Ann Sharp
