Musical Biography
Joseph Pisz
Joe started his musical career, as did many others, in school. He loved the sax on the Theme of the Pink Panther, by Henry Mancini. He wanted to play sax originally, but the teacher suggested that he start with clarinet first. He ended up playing that instrument throughout school and never did learn to play sax. Joe didn’t start to learn guitar until after he came out of the army and was in his early twenties.
Joe bought a Gibson Les Paul and decided to learn on his own. He also bought an Ovation acoustic, and began to tinker with that as well. It was during this time that he actually wrote Long Island Rail Road. After years of tinkering and playing in the American Legion clubs in the Virginia/Maryland area, Joe gave up on music and put the Les Paul away and sold the Ovation. He didn’t touch music again for quite a few years.
It was during the years of his early forties that Joe''s musical journey actually started. The fire Joe had for music was relit when he met Tom Belcher. They played in church together and decided to form a ministry band called Voice of One. The band was Tom on guitar and keyboards, Joe on acoustic and electric guitar, and Joe''s wife Maria on vocals. For the next five years or so, the band played in numerous churches, church events, and in prisons as a prison ministry. Some of the more memorable moments were the experiences they had at the small Haitian churches they played in; one of these put their live performance on Haitian radio.
This musical experience with Tommy evolved into a monthly coffee house event called “Coffee Potts” that Joe produced. Voice of One played as the “house band” and Joe arranged for other talent to come as guests. Joe, Tom, and Maria were leading worship at a local church and the pastor let them use the facilities for the coffee house. This is where Joe met Dave. After a time, Dave joined the worship team and they began playing together there. After only a year or two, Dave moved to Ohio.
Normally that would be the end of a musical relationship, but for Joe and Dave, it turned out to be only the beginning. They had already tinkered with song writing before Dave left, and something got Joe to decide to do a CD project. Dave still wanted to participate, so they decided to do it together. They e-mailed songs back and forth until the songs were ready for the studio. Joe had already met Chuck Hemann at Palm Beach Sound Studios from a previous endeavor and set up the Expressions project with him in October 2005. They spent the next year-and-a-half working on the project until the CD Expressions (Stepping into Today) was completed. It was released in February 2007.

Bio of David M. Gallus
At around age 11 David started playing guitar. His brother Greg was the inspiration. Greg was in several bands playing guitar and singing and David saw the unique value of music in people’s lives. So many people loved music, followed the players, went to concerts, started their own bands, etc. David was drawn to that place. It wasn’t a club, it was a lifestyle.
Fast forward to around age 26. David was saved through the prayers from his wife, Beverly, and the small local church she attended. David started using his guitar for Sunday night bible study praise songs leading the small group is familiar songs. That led to playing in the Sunday morning worship and even singing at times. These were mostly hymns a mild chorus/praise songs. Over a period of 8 years, David became the worship leader using the guitar as the main instrument.
In the following years David attended and played at other churches and started writing some songs God had given him. Scripture became the lyrics, David added the melody, and a song was born. Ken Sifford encouraged David to play at a coffee house at his church on Sunday nights. David played a few originals and folks seemed to like them. Ken, a very skilled guitarist, said David’s songs were very good and he enjoyed hearing them. We tried recording a few of them, but it never gelled and the songs were never finished.
A few years later, David and Beverly, needing a break from the hustle and bustle of church and worship ministry, started going to a small local church that had simple worship time and the messages were practical and straightforward. The worship band was small, but full of talent. After attending for several months, the worship leader asked David to join them and play guitar, since one of the members had college commitments. David agreed. Joe and Maria Pisz were the worship leaders- Maria on vocals, along with Julie Noel singing harmonies and solos, and Joe on guitar. From time to time Tommy Belcher would play keyboard with us, or whatever instrument fit the song.
Joe and David starting working on our own original songs during and after worship band practice. It did not take any time at all to get several songs arranged.
David moved to Ohio because of his job in the Fall of 2004. It was after that that we decided to record our music so we could share it with others. When Joe and his family came to visit for Thanksgiving, we firmed up the band and wrote a contract. That was the Fall of 2005. We decided to call ourselves the Same Difference since so much was the same, yet different, in all that we did.
About a year and a half later, Expressions (Stepping Into Today) was produced and we had 1100 CDs in our hands to sell. This project was the outpouring of original music given to us by God through life’s experiences, places, people, and deep emotional events.
If David were to list the all people that influenced him along the way, this bio would be huge. So many people in so many ways have shaped who David is and directed him along the way and he recalls them by name from time to time with a longing to know where they are now and what has become of them.
To those whom David has known and who remember him, I send my greetings and best wishes to you from my heart.
David has played the guitar since 1970, but is not an educated musician. He never completed any formal training on guitar or music theory. God imparts the melodies that fit the life experience or feelings and emotions into a structured arrangement. Without God’s direction, the songs would not communicate the truth of the meaning nor would the music reach the heart of the listener as intimately. David claims to be a less than average guitarist compared to the wide range of great guitarists that are everywhere these days. But David is not trying to “top” them or to be better than anybody else. David is just being David in an average walk with God and that’s good enough for him. Yes, he works at being a better player and looks to learn more each day. But this is a journey, not a destination, and it is called life.
