The Via Maris was formed in 2005 by Tempe songwriter Chad Sundin. Chad is a 31 year-old near-native Arizonian who returned to the Valley in 2003 after nearly a decade back East. Upon returning, he continued his sporadic collaboration with childhood friend and guitarist Kenny Kohlmeier, a collaboration that, along with a revolving door of local musicians, grew into The Via Maris.
THE WILDERNESS UNDERNEATH features 11 songs that were written from within the context of a move back "home" after a coming of age "away".
