Details:
Villa R''s debut album ‘songs from the apex’ includes a wide mix of indie pop styles and was produced in collaboration with some the finest indie talent never to have made it in Ireland.

Reviews to date:

- RTE , Dublin:

"Those who wear their love of sweet guitar melodies like a badge of honour should find that Villa R give them good reason to stick their chests out even further.

...their week together in a Dublin house in August 2005 has resulted in an album that gets the right mix between nostalgia and now and offers some special moments.

For vinyl collectors the opening two tracks, ''Plain Sailing'' and ''Overred'', would make a great 7" find - and the deliberations about whether Side A or B was the best or most wistful would swing every three minutes."

- Irish Times, Dublin:

“Given the past pedigree, there''s no shortage of breezy guitars and melody-driven riffs, from the spindly acoustics of Overred to the superfuzz of Memory and Passion. Rather than sounding like sub-Replacements workouts, there are off-kilter offerings like the cheap synth (but hugely likeable) rat-a-tat percussion cover of New Order''s Temptation.

Young is a heart-on-sleeve observer, capturing wry moments with a Lloyd Cole sensibility. Whether it''s on familiar turf or poking around in new corners, Songs from the Apex threads a new seam in a well-worn genre. "Failed indie supergroup?" Don''t think so.”

- Road Records, Dublin:

“the album features a selection of mostly acoustic based mellow pop sounds falling somewhere between the go betweens and grand prix era teenage fanclub interspersed with some jangly eighties indie rock”.

- Kramer (ex Ween and Butthole Surfers, producer of Low and Galaxie 500):-
"Hey. Wow. You really MUST let me know if you ever might need me... I love the songs I heard from you here on MySpace."

This record is essentially a collaboration between friends. Having played in bands such as I am the Waltons and The Deportees in the early 90s, Eóin left Ireland to live in Hungary in 1993. Returning home to make this record, Eóin was lucky enough to be able to involve his friends, who also happen to be some of the finest alternative artists in the country.

Members of Villa R have played in such Peel session favourites as Hey Paulette, Jubilee Allstars, and The Sewing Room. Indeed, if Villa R were mapped in an NME band tree, under appreciated Irish indie talent would abound, with names such as Mexican Pets, The Skips and Richer than Astronauts also appearing. In addition to Eóin, the current line up includes:
§ Derrick Dalton (Crumb, Hey Paulette, Mexican Pets, The Deportees)
§ Colm Fitzpatrick (The Sewing Room, Hey Paulette, The Deportees, I am the Waltons)
§ Niall McCormack (Richer than Astronauts, Jubilee Allstars)
§ Darren Nolan (Hey Paulette, The Deportees)
