Wayfare was formed early in 2006 when Stephen Finger, a young musician from Columbia, Missouri, invited five friends to combine their talents and play in a high school band competition. Stephen composed their songs, played acoustic guitar and ukulele, and sang lead vocal. He was joined by Huston Perry on trumpet and saxophone, Cat Couper on violin, Justin Craig on drums and accordion, Zach Johnson on lead guitar and mandolin, and Zach Beeson on bass. Even within the group there was some doubt that their new sound would work, but Wayfare immediately generated an enthusiastic local fan base. Their eclectic combination of instruments and musical backgrounds created an exciting new groove. The band spent the summer of 2006 recording their first CD, “Ceiling Light Yogurt”. Each song on this alternative rock album has a unique style and an unexpected mix of instrumentation, a sound reminiscent of the bands that came out of California in the 70’s, but truly original and very much at home in today’s music scene.
