Cunning Plan hails from Amsterdam (the one in the Netherlands). We play rock music sometimes described as "adult oriented progressive alternative garage rock". We don''t really know what that means but it sounds pretty cool, so we stuck with it.
The core of the band started out quite a few years ago. In 2003 we released our first CD "Updated + Expanded", the first CD in the AOPAGR genre (that we know of, anyway). An album of mood changes, time changes, heavy stuff, intimate, dreamy or dark melodies. Influenced by all the good music (you know what we mean) coming out of the 1970s, 80s and 90s. If you want names, we''ve got ''em: Peter Hammill, Joe Jackson, Elvis Costello, old Yes, New Romantic, Modern Talking. Those guys will be glad we mentioned them!
In the summer of 2004 new singer Susan Arnon joined the ranks. Her background in country, soul and world music
gave the band a whole new perspective. After some gigs and demo recording we returned to the studio. No, not the
same one where we recorded the first album. It''s a figure of speech, you know.
2006 saw the release of "Thoughts Of The Little Grey Girl", featured on this page. It''s still AOPAGR, but more focused and tighter. What remains are the sudden mood changes and the contrast between dark subject matter and cheerful melodies. While one song deals with the downside of relationships and manages to do that in little more than two minutes, another one can bring a smile back on your face and top it all with a Pink Floyd-like guitar solo that is almost too long to fit on an album.
...and let''s not forget that whistle solo!
