ROCK: Jam-band, ROCK: Modern Rock

Details:
In 1999, guitarist Giles Corey was backing Chicago harp-master Billy Branch and drummer Richard King was anchoring blues singer Koko Taylor''s rhythm section. The two sidemen wanted to form an original rock project dedicated to live improvisation and searched for other members to round out the band. They booked a Wednesday night residency at Chicago''s legendary Checkerboard Lounge in hopes of trying out different combinations of players. They immediately recruited two of the city''s most talented musicians-keyboardist Marty Sammon, who at the time was backing blues legend Otis Rush, and J.R. Fuller, who was playing in guitarist Joanna Connor''s band. The chemistry between the four was immediately apparent and Lubriphonic was born. Over the next three years the group gigged regularly in Chicago, crafting its original material and honing its sound.
In early 2003 Lubriphonic released its self-titled debut CD. The ten original selections skillfully blend wry lyrics with infectious hooks and an underlying flavor of the soul and roots music so influential to the band. When performing live, Lubriphonic expands these songs into lush and diverse improvisations. The four band members propel their music with an intensity and creative momentum that is both rare and exhilarating.
Lubriphonic is a young band with a sturdy foundation poised to reach larger and larger audiences. Whether you call their music rock, jam, or roots, it is music with soul and integrity. It is music that will always have an audience.
