MP3 Paranoid Visions - 40 Shades Of Gangreen

hot press magazine described the ireland premier punk rock band as "highly melodic as well as being deeply, deeply raucous" and that this album is "blistering with anti-establishment polemic"

15 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Punk, METAL: Alternative Metal

Details:
Formed in 1982, Paranoid Visions were poles apart from the other Irish bands that graced the 1980’s Dublin gig scene. Surprising everyone, including themselves, with their success in both Ireland and the UK in terms of critical acclaim and record sales, they maintained a stance outside of the music industry norms and closely protected their independent status, licensing all of their material directly from their F.O.A.D label. Records such as Autonomy, Schizophrenia and city of screams all sold very well, but it was the attack on the Irish music industry U2Clone assembly line, in the form of the “I Will Wallow” 10” ep that brought the band to a wider and more mainstream audience… FOAD2U2 graffiti adorned walls all over the country….some of it wasn’t even done by the band!

Ceasing to Perform in 1992, but having never officially splitting up, the band was assembled on 3 occasions over the following 15 years. 1996 to support the sex pistols on some dates on the filthy lucre tour), in 2001 to play with the Damned on their 25th anniversary tour and again in 2005 in support of their back catalogue CD release “outside in”. Buoyed on by the success of the album, (which sold out its pressing despite availability being limited to a select few shops and live sales only), the band released the rest of their back catalogue throughout 2006 and in December released their first new material in 16 years in the form of the ep “missing in action”. To date the ep has been repressed 3 times despite only being available through 4 records shops, gigs and internet. Amazingly it has sold in equal amounts via I-tunes.

March 2007 see the release of the bands first new album since 1990. Entitled “40 Shades of Gangreen” it captures the band at their most tuneful and caustic. Featuring the well received promo single “missing in action”, the live favourite “forever winter” (a 7 ½ minute long gothic punk rock horror song), the Crass endorsed “Rock n’ Roll n’ Revolution”, the 21 years in the making “AIDS”, new crowd favourites “Wearside Jack” , “acts of love” and “9 months to the disco” and 8 other punkgothmetal rock classics in the waiting (including the bands answer to the sex pistols “god save the queen”; “40 Shades of Gangreen”).

Initial reaction to the album is that it is the bands best work to date by far.

Hot Press, the Irish industry rock magazine has described it thus:

"blistering collection of anti establishment polemic."
and
"highly melodic as well as being deeply, deeply raucous"

The album is being launched on 31st March in Eamon Dorans with special guests The Mosquitos and Droppin’ Bombs.

Paranoid Visions will also be the studio guests on the Icon show on Phantom FM on 27th March

The band will be heading to the UK to play a couple of gigs for the English launch at the end of April before heading to Europe for a handful of dates

THE ALBUM IS RELEASED BY FOAD RECORDS VIA ALL MEDIA ENTERTAINMENT IN IRELAND

Track by track......

01. 9 Months to the Disco.

its about when a young girl hooks up with a selfish bastard with only one thing on his mind ...then has to carry the consequences. It suggests that men are always looking for one thing, and young men in particular have shown a history of discarding the products of their conquests...which is a tad irresponsible....always take precautions (both sexually and with the choice of partner!)!!!!

02. Missing In Action.

can be taken as a suicide note...but the reality is its about someone who feels they don''t fit in with the general norms and decides to vanish off the radar and live outside the system altogether

03. Wearside Jack.

Wearside jack was the man who fed false information to the police about the Yorkshire ripper, claiming to be him and sending them on a wild goose chase. It is saying that the death of another few women is partly his fault...although the police are also to blame for following the
line of enquiry despite witnesses saying the ripper wasn''t a Geordie

04. Braindance....

about the human race not using its brain or abilities to its full potential..."one dimensional, one track minds"

05. Rock ''n roll n'' Revolution.

a song about the state of second hand modern day punk rock and how it is missing the point. The use of crass''s "punk is dead" from 1978 serves as a reminder and a statement that things go around and around...like a revolution...and gather momentum...unfortunately its the wrong angle that gathers momentum

06. Pyscho.

Albert Fish was a serial killer who used to eat his victims...he specialised in children and was barking mad. the spoken words are a quote from him. Once he was executed the postmortum showed needles and nails inserted in his balls...seemingly self administered for the crack...and on the day of execution he was in great form as it was something he
hadn''t tried before. Unusually for a visions song it passes no judgement or comment...its simply tells the story

06. Fuck Forever.

We are mad as fuck...and we aren''t going to take it anymore!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!everyone is out to get you and if you show weakness and compassion you are exploited by everyone else

08. Acts of Love.

About being turned into an angry young man as a result of parental neglect

09. Visions.

Being exploited and brainwashed by the media

10. Forever Winter.

its about depression!

11. Creeping.

its about realising that you have wasted your life thus far, and that you will never waste another day, because it may be your last

12. 40 Shades of Gangreen.

the celtic tiger has made a lot of people act like they are proud to be Irish....but have no concept of why they should be proud. "plastic paddys" who despite being called patriot can''t even speak our own language

13. Aids.

about the way that mans raping of the planet throws up a virus that can threaten our very existence...everyone then starts blaming the carriers and the source rather than the root cause. Once a cure is found the rape will continue and another disease will come...."and someday soon there''ll be no release"

”no posing, no swagger, no compromise. paranoid visions are a proper fucking punk rock band. tonight is the launch of their new e.p ''missing in action''.

PA appears through hazy blue smoke to tune his guitar while the atrix''s ''treasure on the wasteland'' plays to a waiting crowd. the rest of the band unceremoniously follow. there''s a burst of feedback, the opening chord to ''9 months to the disco'' and deko wanders out with black wraparounds and pillar box red hair. frankensteins monster comes alive, all 8 foot 5 of him leering over the edge of the stage.

and then they lay into ''asleep at the wheel'' and ''politician'', still two of my favorite PV''s songs. deko paces around like a caged animal. missing in action (!) for over 10 years and having reformed in 2005, they still have it in spades. this reminds me of some of the blinders they played when i first saw them in the henry grattan in the late 80s.”
