I grew up as a teen in the 60’s and was musically influenced by groups and singers from the 60’s and 70’s like the Beach Boys, The Beatles, Crosby Stills and Nash, James Taylor, etc.
Unlike most musically inclined youth of that generation I enlisted in the U.S. Army fresh out of high school in 1969 and spent 3 years full time as a demolition sergeant on a Green Beret A team with the 10th Special Forces and 9 years with the Utah National Guard with the 19th Special Forces.
After my full time military tour I spent 2 years on an L.D.S. (Mormon) mission in northern England.
Since returning from my mission I have been involved in Emergency Medical and Fire Service and have been a full time Paramedic/Firefighter for the past 25 years. I am currently a Combat Fire Captain for the Unified Fire Department of Greater Salt Lake.
I married the beautiful and sweet Bobbie LaBounty in 1974 and together we raised three wonderful children, Sunny our daughter, and our sons Zach and Tyler. All three of our children have married wonderful kind and motivated spouses and we are grateful for each of them. We currently have 6 wonderful grandchildren. Hopefully we''ll have more. We now know why grandparents make such fools of themselves.
Zach and Tyler both have guitar performance degrees from Utah State University and teach guitar.
I am a 2 time colon cancer survivor with a true respect and love for life. I love my wife more deeply today than I did when we got married. She has been my rock during trying times. She always has a smile and something sweet to say. What can I say, I’m crazy about her.
Music has always played an important part in my life and that of my family. I enjoyed the years my children were teens and we would play guitars and sing together almost every night. It kept them out of trouble and gave me a chance to spend time with them. It was a wonderful time.
