Historical purists may find his Scarlatti, and even his Haydn too unapologetically pianistic (although even in the slow movement of the Haydn, he consistently refuses to let the music congeal). But there is little to fault in his superb handling of rhythm, articulation, and voicing in the Romantic Repertoire (listen to the polyphony in the B section of the Rachmaninov) -- not to mention the sheer authority of his climaxes.
