POP: Power Pop, ROCK: 90''s Rock

Details:
Singer-Bassist Kyle Hernandez studied double bass at the University of Wisconsin with the esteemed jazz bassist Richard Davis. Schooled in classical and jazz Kyle moved to Chicago in 1995 and became active in the Chicago improvised music scene, playing with saxophonist/composers Ken Vandermark and Scott Rosenberg. In 1997 at the behest of brother Chris, he started writing songs in the vein of his favorite indie power pop bands.

Recording and playing as the band Cudahy, they released the Millenia EP in 1998. Updating their sound and name to Certain Stars, the band plays melodic indie rock influenced by bands such as Teenage Fanclub, Guided by Voices and Superchunk.

Certain Stars has a diverse number of songwriters and styles within the indie power pop framework. Both Hernandez brothers are represented on "Tambourines" and drummer Greg Hein debuts a song as well. With the addition of Chris Voss on guitar in 2004, the band became a dynamic live force and audiences in Milwaukee and Chicago have expressed amazement at the energy and fun the band has on stage.

The 2004 self-released "Times Like These Call for Tambourines" finds Certain Stars arriving with confidence and conviction.
