As far back as I can remember, I heard music in my head. My first request to learn the piano at age four was laughed at by my father. Fortunately I convinced my parents I was determined and soon began lessons. I fondly remember my piano teacher, Ms. King, trying to teach my mother at the same time. By the time I was thirteen, I had written Lies.
Due to some trying times including a battle with cancer, I did not write most of the songs until recently. When I thought about giving up music, The Fire Burned Out, came to me while I was sitting at a desk trying to be an accountant. I actually wrote the original version of this song on sticky notes!
All of my songs are important to me, having personal attachments for people and events. Most importantly for this album is the Wright song. Cecil Wright was a good friend to my husband and me; he passed away last year. During his fight with lung cancer, his song came to me. It grieves me that he didn''t get to hear it before he moved on.
The Lost Song is named so because I heard it in a dream. I got out of bed in the middle of the night and played it through. It is amazing, but the next morning I could not remember it! So I told my husband, David, that the next time it happened to record it. Fortunately I heard it again, and he caught a snippet of it on his cell phone. I then composed it fully and named it appropriately.
