CROSSING THE RIVER
Johnny’s second record

Enter Johnny Dock, an American songwriter crafting all-American music with strains of rock, blues, country and an occasional hint of good-time rockabilly. The emerging chartbuster has just released his second CD Crossing the River.
In case you haven''t heard the buzz, Johnny Dock is a mythological persona created by a successful architectural designer-builder and restaurateur, the very real Bucks County (PA) native, John Franklin. Like Johnny Dock, Franklin has been writing and playing music all his life. He put it aside early on to provide a secure and stable environment for his wife and family.
Now Franklin is picking up where he left off—writing and playing whole-souled original music from the days when rock was young. His are stories of hitchhiking, traveling around, and little epiphanies along the way. His wife, Linda, who has sung with him since the early days, is a vocalist with his group.
In Johnny Dock''s tales, the characters don''t always win and endings aren''t always perfect—but there is one thing they do have in common: each contains a truth. His lyrics hold lessons, and the stories he tells are ours. For John Franklin is a storyteller, and he invented Johnny Dock to tell his tales.
He writes songs for people who are at that time in their lives when the legends once sold through early rock and roll beckon again. Having deferred their dreams and worked hard for their families, a generation raised on rock ideals now seeks more—they want songs with the power of their youth and the wisdom of perspective. They relate to Dock’s songs because they’ve been there, with their bag of dreams and their more ordinary outcomes.
Johnny Dock''s music has noble imagery and tight musicianship that harken back to the glory days of rock and roll when such things mattered. Crossing the River is the perfect metaphor for Franklin. In his words “It’s in the balance of our existence that we are. That point where good and evil, light and darkness are suspended. One to the right and one to the left, one doesn’t exist without the other. It accepting that and responding in a way that brings peace and sustainability to the world around you. That’s Crossing the River.”
