Details:
For the last decade and a half, singer-songwriter and producer, John Farias has been entertaining audiences from Northern California down to the tip of Baja California, Mexico. As a solo artist, John has captivated his supporters with a unique blend of pop, rock, funk, and Latin flavors. After spending two years in the recording studio, his latest CD “Smooth Times” is finally finished. “Smooth Times” is the latest effort by John Farias toward realizing his musical vision.
John began his musical career when he was just five years old. He started playing the piano and was quickly performing in front of audiences. As a teenager, John graduated to guitar and began writing, recording, and producing his own work. John studied many different styles on guitar but seemed to have a passion for rock-n-roll. Born of Portuguese descent and influenced by legendary performers such as Kiss, U2, Aerosmith, and Santana, John wanted to take his various influences and turn them into one unique sound.
In 1994, John Farias released his first CD “Masquerade”. After much success, John released two CDs with his band One Good Eye: “Tequila Worm Training 101” in 2000 and “One Night in Paradise” in 2001. During these years, John began hosting an annual charity concert “Acoustic Jam.” The shows have raised thousands of dollars for Cystic Fibrosis and Breast Cancer research. In fact, the CD “One Night in Paradise” was recorded to benefit Cystic Fibrosis and was funded in part by the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission. Through his charitable efforts, John has been able to really connect with his audience. And with each successive CD release, John continues to grow as an artist.
“Smooth Times” is a blend of pop and rock -n- roll, with a twist of melodic guitar work on top. The CD features John’s passionate vocals and soulful guitar playing. Furthermore, the record’s good time feel is refreshing and energizing. It’s rock-n-roll; yet it is sexy and smooth. The CD also features Bernardo Pena (vocalist and percussionist) and Rena Durham (vocalist).
“I wanted to make a record that was all about having fun,” Farias states. “I wanted to experiment with different singers, guitar textures, and percussion to create something smooth yet edgy. I had a lot of fun recording the “Smooth Times” record.
Looking forward, John is beginning work on a compilation CD. The CD, to be released in the summer of 2006, will feature Sacramento singer-songwriters. John’s production company, Upside Down Productions, has even been funded in part by the Sacramento Metropolitan Arts Commission with regard to this compilation project. This work is just a further culmination of John’s community involvement.
With a CD just released and another on the way, John is sure to keep his audience entertained. And though his projects will keep him busy, one can be sure that John will continue to have “Smooth Times” ahead.
