ROCK: Hard Rock, ROCK: Modern Rock
A rock band hailing from Helsinki, Finland. Their name is derived from the geographical location of their hometown — latitude 60°. Let’s meet these fine young Finns…
~ Ville ~ The youngest of the group ~ Ville Salminen, who recently graduated Sibeliusmusic lukio, is the axeman of the group. Possessing an awe-inspiring array of effects pedals, Ville grinds his way through each song. With a finesse far beyond his young years, he takes us along each swell, crest and hanging note of every L-60° song. Imagine him in 5 years….
~ Markus ~ Our stickman, Markus Malin. Currently a student at the Pop/Jazz Conservatory of Helsinki, where he’s studying drums. Providing L-60°’s driving beats, Markus displays the skilled touch of a more seasoned skinman. He has an urban style as he’s been playing lots of hip-hop grooves around Helsinki as well as blasting through the heavy rockin’ rhythms of L-60°.
~ Tommi ~ Tommi Huuskonen, bassman extraordinaire.
A music major at the Pop/Jazz Conservatory of Helsinki, Tommi supplies us the smooth pumping bass grooves of L-60° and is the newest member to the group.
~ Olli ~ Last but never least — the driving force behind the
phenomenon known as L-60°…. Olli Helenius….
The frontman of the band, Olli is a professional drummer, songwriter and our rhythm guitar player. He has toured Europe several times with Jeni Vernadeau, was part of Zilch, who later morphed into Sonicflood, and is the drummer for Juho Tapio, whose last 3 albums went gold and
the most recent is about to reach platinum.
L-60° has endured many ups and downs for it’s 5 year history, from major labels wanting to sign them with
their first demo, to labels fighting over them, contract disputes, lack of proper promotion, and members leaving the band suddenly. Through all this L-60° remains positive and optimistic of their future. In March 2007, L-60° began their partnership with Irish Rose Music. Says Olli, “Everything happens for a reason. Perhaps
everything we’ve been through was to prepare us for what comes in the future?”
If Bon Jovi and The Queens of the Stone Age had a baby and the baby would marry Depeche Mode, that would make L-60°. The band with unique mix of melodies that are filled with longing and music that moves from airy ballads to edgy guitar-driven rock. Band that sings out what they believe and stand for. "The songs are really personal everyday stories of our struggles, hopes, dreams and faith."
If you''re a friend of Finnish melancholic music, add a little spark of light and there you have it, L-60°.
