Details:
The power trio is not dead! At least that’s what has been proved with the release of “Social Graces Set Aside,” Mercury Crossing’s sophomore album. It truly displays the essence of a power trio at work. The instrumentation is simple, but full and thick, amply supporting front woman, Sheri Roloff’s unique vocal style. The musical influences within the band span wide and are represented and blended well. The opening track “Casting Spells” sets the album up with a thumping bass drum intro that throws you into a whirlwind of wailing vocals, fiery bass, and super-duty drums. The fun doesn’t stop there. “Tell Me, Tell Me” reveals the underlying blues/jazz influence that has been melded perfectly to alternative rock – the verses display smooth bass lines and melodic sensibility, while the chorus enters dripping with rock edge. Mercury Crossing is not your standard rock band, both lyrically and musically. “Sell Sell Sell” is a great example of the unique sound that each band member brings. Owen Strombeck’s progressive drumming style interlocks with Andy Hawk’s edgy and distinctive bass lines, which blended with Sheri’s roaring guitar, unexpected lyrics and fervent vocals just might make you pose the question, “how have I not heard these guys before?!”

Well now that you’re in the loop, jump on board. There’s a lot to be heard on “Social Graces Set Aside”…so you better get started!
