Details:
Inspired by a guitar-playing babysitter and weary of piano lessons, Rich Niebaum began playing guitar at age 8 with a $26 toy instrument he helped buy with allowance money. He went on to accompany his parents’ bluegrass/gospel ensemble of friends, spent a few years playing in rock’n’roll bands, and ended up in music school at the University of Kansas.
While completing his degree in music theory, Niebaum reacquainted himself with the piano (this time, loving it), played guitar in one of the University’s jazz bands, and learned how to intellectually slice and dice music any which way. Finally, he took his guitar out of standard tuning, forgot what he was doing, and found music.
