My name is Joel McDowell, I founded the Band in Mid-2006. I have hand picked the rest of the band to fulfill a vision I have had, of a unique sounding, hard working, professional and most of all- Desirable Musical Product. We are "Spider Gear."
The Band''s Debut CD "Mullet Over" is an 11 song road trip to Surprise City. Around every corner is an unexpected hook that is highly contagious and - for which there is no known antidote.
Although impossible to pigeon hole, the band''s sound is a retro (now modern) power-pop and new-wave mix that is big as life and true as an arrow.
The Band:
Starting with Brook Hoover; Brook is the greatest guitarist I know. Well versed in any style, He has to be seen live to be believed. I''ve played in many bands with Brook including- The Meerkats and The Surf Zombies. Together releasing 5 CD''s and playing over 1,500 shows.
Clem Clemons; is like a brother to me. He is not only a fantastic Bassist and Singer, but he is one of the funniest cats I''ve ever been around. We go back as far as I can remember. His personality is obviously a hit with the fans too. A fun stage show is not optional in this band, it is guaranteed.
Rodney Axle III is the band''s Drummer. What can I say about Rodney? Well- as in many bands there is one member (frequently the drummer) who is "nuttier than a fruitcake", need I say more? I have never seen a person with as much NATURAL energy as Rod. This guy was born to drum! And believe it or not- He can sing too!
About Me; I''m the main song writer and front man/lead singer. I put almost every ounce of energy, practically every waking moment and definitely every dime I have into this project, so this is how I KNOW that it is going to explode into something big.
We have played in 100''s of the Finest Colleges, Festivals and Clubs in the Midwest, as well as every Roach infested, dungeon like hell-hole, both on and off the map. You know; the kind of bars where the doorman gives you a tetanus shot and mouth guard instead of a hand stamp upon entry.
The McDowell / Hoover writing duo have released over 100 songs that keep their fans intrigued, impassioned and eager for more.
Spider Gear''s debut release "Mullet Over" promises to be the best Rock to come out of Iowa since Interstate 80. Please join us in this great adventure.
