Dame Grease had to choose from 10,000 submissions, but he said, "it was something about her voice, her delivery, that led me to choosing her." Now Mystik is scheduled to work with Dame Grease in the studios on his mixtape.

For many female artists, the grind to be considered an equal in the rap industry is a struggle in itself. You have to separate yourself from the booty - shaking video girls and stand alone, as a true icon. 21-year old Mystik hailing from the Philadelphia area, has been doing this since she was 17.
"I always knew what I wanted to do..." describes Mystik as she talks candidly about her career. Music was always in her life, even at a young age. As the daughter of a music teacher, she was surrounded by song writing and singing ever since she could remember. After her parents were divorced, Mystik moved away to live with her father. Since her mother was no longer in her life as much, she longed to do more musically without her around to guide her. This is where hip hop came in to play in Mystik''s life.
"When I had moved to the next town over, I heard my first hip hop song on the radio, and I couldn''t believe that I had never heard that kind of music before. I was about 16 years old, and first hearing it, it really blew me away. I had no idea I was being so sheltered musically." At 17, Mystik started hanging out other teens who shared the same love for hip hop as herself. She wanted to learn more about it, and really know how to master it. To get more involved with it, she started djing with an old pair of turn tables her father bought her. She would sit in her room for hours teaching herself how to scratch and mix like the people she saw on tv.
After a few months of that, she decided to get more creative. "It was the rapping that really intrigued me. I had always been a great writer so it just came very natural to me." Recording tracks in her bedroom with a pc mic only lasted a few months. She got a job and proceeded to purchase equipment that she not only recorded her first 2 mixtapes on, but that she started her career with. "I was recording a track a day, and also renting out studio time. I was developing a big reputation where I lived as someone who was starting a movement."
After 2 years of perfecting her song writing style and making her flow more solid, Mystik craved nation - wide attention, that she felt she deserved. "One of my friends that I used to record with, his brother was agent in New York. As soon as his brother heard me, he came right down to meet me." A chance meeting with a talent agent from EON Modeling Agency, landed Mystik a management deal and a move to the Big Apple; New York City. After living in NY for a few months, she was accomplishing many things. "I was only 19 and doing so many things, that I never thought I could do. From performing at the Crobar and even recording my demo at Boogie Down Productions in the Bronx."
Two years later, with new management; she has performed, worked with and even opened for Missy Elliot, Slim Thug, Jim Jones (Dipset), MC Serch (3rd Bass), and Prince Paul. She was featured on the pilot for the White Rapper Show on VH1, where she competed against other white emcees for $100,000. "It was a really great experience for me. I brought the cameras to my neighborhood, so they could see where I come from and what I rap about." Last September, Mystik joined Crime Mob and Fabo of D4L on the Outwork Me College tour, the biggest east coast college tour last year. With a new fashion sponsorship by Get Money Girl and a tour underway, Mystik is setting her goals high. "I feel as though, the industry really needs a white female to be out there. We buy cds too, and there''s no one to represent us. That''s where I come in. I''m not Britney, I''m no diva. I''m JUST me."
