MP3 Carey Sims & Black Market Radio - Coffee and Second Hand Smoke

Simple story songs, with meat and potaotes rock hooks, delivered with a gutsty vocal. If Paul Rogers sung for The Eagles it might sound something like this.

12 MP3 Songs
ROCK: Roots Rock, COUNTRY: Country Rock

Details:
Formed in February 2003, Carey Sims & Black Market Radio is the creative offspring of an unlikely trio of veteran songwriters: Carey Sims (voice, guitar), Andy Seets (guitar), and Derek Young (bass). "Derek approached me with regards to helping him work on his voice for an upcoming solo Cd. He was fed up with the band dynamic and was ready to branch out on his own. He had played in some heavier bands around the area, and I figured he wouldn''t really dig the stuff I was in to. With some nagging I persuaded his to get together with an old band mate of mine, Andy Seets. We hit it off from the jump. Andy has a country meets modern rock sound, I am more of a straight forward 3 chords and a hook guy, and Derek likes the riffs. We really complimented each other well. Lyrically we are a great balance for one another."

The trio quickly penned a healthy batch of tunes and completed the band by recruiting their buddy Chuck Lee (drums) in to the fold. By July 2003 the band had it''s legs, playing gigs and beginning to create a buzz one listener at a time.

The band was aptly described by one music critic as "Radio Ready Alt. Country". Another has described the band as "Tom Petty in Tuscaloosa". And another, "Roots rock with an amazing singer". All seem valid. A Carey Sims and BMR song is sure to catch you with a hook, tell you a simple story, and linger in your head for days. Sometimes more than often it''ll even make you think a little.

Equal parts rhythm and blues, country, and roots rock have find their way into their straight ahead sound. Stir one part southern soul singer, two helpings of raw gutsy guitar, in with a crack tight rhythm section, and you have the recipe for one sweet home cooked delight. Oh yeah I forgot to mention that these boys sing sweeter than a nest full of robins. Heartfelt lyrics, with strong melodies, and rich southern harmony can easily be described in one word, refreshing!

If you are looking for an alternative to what''s on your radio, Black Market Radio is more than worth a listen.

On "Coffee and Second Hand Smoke", Sims and the boys give you a nice chapbook of old-fashioned story songs accented with Sims'' uncanny knack with meat-and-potatoes rock hooks. His agile voice is reminiscent of early Paul Rodgers, raw and precise. Guitarist Andy Seets shines throughout and is the record''s unsung hero adding memorable countermelodies and often blazing lead work. (Fender Telecaster and Rickenbacker guitar lovers jump on board.)

If you are a fan of simple to the point songwriting, lyrics that tell a story, and in your face, heart felt delivery. "Coffee and Second Hand Smoke" is a CD that needs to be in your collection.

Here''s what one fan wrote recently:

The latest CD from Carey Sims and Black Market Radio is a rare blend of modern roots rock and country soul. "Coffee and Second Hand Smoke" is a tapestry of songs that are both moving and profound. The songs have a unique way of penetrating deep into your soul. Through Sims'' vocals you see that tapestry come to life. Black Market Radio''s solid rhythmic and harmonic foundation drive the lyrics, adding an unmistakable pulse to this CD.

Whether the show is a full band endeavor or Sims "unplugged" solo, he delivers each song such emotion and charisma that the listener can''t help but be lead on a journey. Songs such as "Last Cowboy" and "Devil In You" in particular showcase the great lyric writing and Sims'' versitile vocal talent.

This is a band not to be missed.
