I was born in Leslie County, Kentucky, and was raised in a coal mining camp. My dad was an underground coal miner and he loved music. At an early age he bought me a Harmony flat top guitar, which I still have today. He always loved to hear me sing and play. I must have been born to do just that, as it came so natural to me. As I grew older I tried and performed all different kinds of music, but slowly setteled in on a mix of country and mountain feeling music. I have been told that I sound black. I admit to loving the sound of the sixties and I''m sure it helped to develop my phrasing, but honestly, I just sing from the heart. I love my country roots, and would not have it any other way. I have been recording in Nashville for the past few years, and could not be more pleased with the nashville sound, applied to my songs. They have a way of painting what I''m feeling in to the track. I recorded a couple of singles for Warner bros., in 1983, but it was a short visit. My friends and I always said if we could see our name in Billboard, we could figure we had made it. Well, we saw our name but realized that having fame and fortune was defintely not making it. I have a wonderful wife, great children, and beautiful grandchildren, and my own studio here in the mountains. I plan to write and sing till the lord calls me home, or he returns. I hope everyone will like what I do....
