Details:
Jay Wilder is many things, a writer, a composer and a producer, but first he is a guitar player. Since picking up the guitar when he was ten years old, Jay has mastered the technical guitar skills of a seasoned player and grown into a soulful artist. Inclined to innovation and change, his playing traditionally has sought to bring together challengingly different styles. Today he is using traditional Americana as a starting point and infusing it with the blues, jazz, country, and classical music to create a sound that is ornately beautiful.

In many ways, Jay''s newest work is a coming home. Centered on clean and intimate guitar playing, his new album, “Quiet Please” (2007) listens like a carefully written letter reads. As a guitarist, Jay’s gift lies in using the guitar as a lyrical instrument. There is a deliberate sense of spaciousness, which allows other instruments to interact and create a narrative unfolding musically. These pieces are dense in their construction but primarily raw and direct in their performance. The result is cinematic story in music that is a credit to Jay Wilder’s growing maturity as a writer and composer. In his words, this record “is a first for me in that the parts, the players, and the instruments were really carefully put together. There was a lot of management, but the goal was to get something very real and raw.”

Jay hears and visualizes this new work as a soundtrack to documentaries and films. He is a regular performer on the New York/New Jersey music scene and spends time on additional side projects on stage and in the studio.

Previously, Jay Wilder was a founding member of the alternative progressive rock band Contraption. “Self Portrait,” released in 2002, showcased a sophisticated, eclectic brand of music, of which Jay was a main contributor in the writing. Progressive and technical, this music was defined by the breaking of musical clichés and barriers. The music was arranged with juxtaposing and disparate styles, creating it’s own unique approach to song structure. Contraption successfully toured the Northeast College Circuit, received AAA radio airplay and continues to be distributed across all major online music providers.
