Details:
Dave Anthony is one of LI’s foremost guitarists and singers. His playing has been featured in the film, “Van Vorst Park,” and he has been called by NEWSDAY “...quite the guitarist...excellent hands.” WALK-AM Radio host Luisa Potenza calls Dave, “an exciting and vibrant singer and performer.” Today, Dave performs in a variety of musical situations, as a soloist, as a partner in a duo, and with his own band and others. Here’s a brief history:
Dave’s first group was The Techniques, a 60’s a band that competed with Billy Joel’s Hassles at Battles of the Bands. He was featured guitarist in The Joe Butler Blues Band, and performed his way through college as a single at local parties. Working with his friend and co-songwriter Al Verunac, Dave was signed to BT Puppy records as guitarist for Exit West. Next he performed with The Rhythm Dukes, a cover band, and as bassist with vibraphonist Bob Dehne and his quintet. On the wedding circuit, Dave led three different bands: Guys and Dolls (a quartette of two men and two women), A Touch of Brass (featuring a horn section), and The Dave Anthony Band (a versatile five piece group). Dave’s bands were featured “house bands” at several prominent Long Island caterers.
Orchestral music has also been part of Dave’s experience. He has played in the pit orchestras of Bye, Bye Birdie, Evita, and Children of Eden, in Long Island productions. Dave played big band music at the famed Rye, NY amusement park with the Playland Orchestra.
As a soloist, Dave returned to his love for Spanish guitar, creating three CDs: Acoustic Summer, My Guitar, and Solitaire for Guitar. Kevin Amorim, NEWSDAY music critic, praised the Solitaire album and called Dave “quite the guitarist with expert hands.” Studying voice with renowned Manhattan teacher Carl Olsen rekindled Dave’s love for Neapolitan songs. He worked as soloist with host Luisa Potenza of WALK-AM Radio’s Italia Mia program at many events featuring Italian music.
Currently, Dave is working with vocalist Shannon Rae as a duo, and is also bassist with The Paul Effman Cocktail Society Band. He also fronts his own Dave Anthony Band.
Whether he’s strumming and singing pop and classic rock at a lively party, performing beautiful Spanish classical guitar at a wedding ceremony, or singing Neapolitan songs to a group of enthusiastic aficionados, Dave puts his heart and soul into his beloved guitar and exciting voice.
