So Why Are High PR BackLinks Important?
Well, lets imagine you are in fabulous bar which is packed with people. They are all chatting, trying to look cool and attract the attention of the very sexy but fickle Madame G who owns the place. This isnt because they particularly like her, but they know she chooses who should be allowed through to the exclusive VIP area, where free Champagne flows.
Suddenly, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie enter the bar. Madame Gs eyes light up and then she notices them head straight over to you. Who are you she wonders, obviously someone of note because Brad and Angelina are your friends.

It rose to PR3 and more importantly became glued to the Number 1 spot for my main keyword, after hovering mainly around the middle of page one for the last year - and that makes a huge difference to the number of visitors.
Are High PR BackLinks Really Worth That Much More Than Low PR?
Yes, Yes and Yes again is the answer. I was going to get fancy and draw up a chart, but they can be more confusing than helpful sometimes. We dont know the precise logarithm that Google uses, but estimates are most often between 5x and all the way to 10x, this is the amount of increase between each PR number. So here is a simple indication comparing PageRank values at a 6x logarithmic scale.
PR1 = 6
PR2 = 36
PR3 = 216
PR4 = 1,296
PR5 = 7,776
PR6 = 46,656
PR7 = 279,936
PR8 = 1,679,616
What these figures mean, for example, in simple terms is that a BackLink from a PR6 page is worth 7,776 from a PR1 page (46,656÷6). The formula is actually more complex than this and the final figure is 2 or 3 times larger than this. Whichever way you look at it, there is a massive exponential increase for each jump in PageRank.
In a nutshell, you could get software to generate 250,000 PR0 BackLinks and they wouldnt have the power of a single well placed DoFollow PR7 BackLink!
