Details:
The Jazz Spectrum Vocal Quartet has been performing in Northern Illinois/ Southern Wisconsin since 1994 with only one change in personnel. In 2004, Dale Tubaugh had to relocate to Florida and Tim Laud replaced him. The quartet is backed by piano, acoustic bass, drums and sax. LIVE IN JULY is their third CD. The selections here were recorded on July 21,2006, during a live performance at Lincoln Park in Kenosha, Wisconsin.

THE SINGERS:

PEGGY CONIFF, soprano…an original member of the group who has an on stage presence envied by many but achieved by few. Peggy is a surgical assistant to a veterinarian. She is married with a grown daughter.

STACY EIFERT, alto…Bob’s daughter and the on stage spokesperson of the group. She has been with Jazz Spectrum Vocal Quartet from the first rehearsal. She is also a talented drummer. Stacy is completing her Master’s Degree in education and is an elementary school teacher. She and her husband John, the group’s drummer, have 2 children.

DAN MAHER, tenor…another original member who helped develop the Jazz Spectrum sound. He is an engineer with Underwriters Laboratories. Dan is married with 2 children and one grandchild. His youngest son was a Marine who died while serving his country in Iraq.

TIM LAUD, bass... in the fall of 2003, the group’s bass singer announced his pending move to Florida. In the next three months, many were auditioned, but none were chosen until Tim was discovered anchoring the bass section in a local church choir. His first brush with music was in grade school where he played trombone. He continued his love of those low notes by also playing the sousaphone through high school and college. Tim’s daytime gig is an electrical engineer for Zenith. He is married and has two grown sons.

THE BAND:

BOB ZAUN, piano…Jazz Spectrum’s leader and arranger. Bob retired from his post as Regional Manager for Chase Home Mortgage in 2000 and has since devoted his time to Jazz Spectrum activities. He has produced three CD’s, written numerous arrangements and has composed many clever vocalese lyrics. He is married and has 2 children, Stacy and Greg. Greg has perfect pitch and is able to transcribe any music, as complicated as it may be. This has been valuable especially in transcribing instrumental solos for Bob’s lyrics.

JOHN EIFERT, drums…a graduate of the University of Illinois with a degree in music. He is married to Stacy whom he met when they both played snare drum in the Marching Illini. John has been playing with Jazz Spectrum since 1988 when Bob recruited him to join the mortgage banking industry. He is a loan officer and branch manager for Chase Home Mortgage.

CRAIG BURGESS, saxes…in 1979 Craig and Bob met while playing a local wedding band. Craig was just a kid, barely out of high school, but he sure could play. Within a year they started the instrumental quartet, Jazz Spectrum. That association has continued to this day. Throughout the 80’s and early 90’s the group performed with a variety of solo singers until 1994 when the vocal quartet was formed. Craig is employed by an instrument manufacturer in Elkhorn, WI and has 4 children and 2 grandchildren.

BILL ZIELINSKI, acoustic bass... Bill and the Jazz Spectrum crossed paths in February, 2004, almost by accident during a recording session for the CD, "It''s Christmas." He was recommended by one of the guest artists on the CD. It was "love at first hear!" The timing was perfect since Tom Sievers, the group’s original bass player, had just announced his retirement due to family obligations. Bill is a Senior Software Engineer. Put in generic terms, his job is every kid''s dream...he develops video games! Bill is married and has a young, talented, trumpet-playing son.
