“It has been 10 years since my first project “Sidewalk Patterns” was released.”
“A lot has happened since then.”
“Generations” is a Solo Piano CD written and performed by Olivier Stern.
After my first child was born, we decided to move to Arizona in order to get out of the city that we had lived in most of our lives.
I was happy to have made that move. The house we lived in was very secluded and I was able to write ninety percent of this project in the short period of time we were there.
“Horizon” is a tune that gives me a sense of direction and hope for the future. There is always something good waiting for us.
“New Beginning” was inspired by the birth of my second son Hayden. He is 2 years old now, and is currently hitting me on the head with a pillow while I’m writing this short bio.
“Peace pt. 1” has a nostalgic feel, it brings me back to a time of longing and uncertainty.
“Peace pt. 2” is taking control.
“Generations” the title track was inspired by looking at one of my family photo albums. One picture specifically caught my eye which was of my father, myself and my first born. That was the first time I felt a part of the continuation of life.
“Circus pt. 1 and 2” is basically the circus in my living room.
“Spider and the Fly” was inspired by the book Spider and The Fly by Mary Howitt. This was one of Alexander’s favorites which I still read to him occasionally for his bedtime story.
“New Son” this song came about while I was watching Alexander fall asleep one night.
“Jim’s song” came about pretty easy for me simply because my friend Jim Jacobsen wrote the progression. I stopped by his house one day and he was sitting at the piano playing this cool progression. I asked him what that was and he said that it was just something that he came up with and liked to play. So I asked him if I could elaborate on it, he said absolutely, and I had the song completed in a couple of days. Jim of course thinks it’s the best song on the disk.
I wrote “hide and seek” while watching kids play the game in the front yard. It fit absolutely perfect with what they were doing. Put it on the next time your kids are playing.
