Details:
Beneath this Coat and Tie reveals the saucier side of Shelby Merchant, presenting songs rich in steamy innuendo, embracing maturity and relishing comedy. All twelve tracks were written or co-written by this Mississippi born, North Carolina raised tune craftsman. Beneath this Coat and Tie, although radio friendly, is nothing short of a sonically and lyrically deep album.

Shelby grabs the reins and harnesses the party crowd with the catchy track Beer Tooth then showcases his vocally soaring range in the heart wrenching lyrics of Silence. Next he rocks the boat to the smooth grooves of a horn section reminiscent of Motown in the song Slow Row.

There is something here for everyone; just listen for the raw and gritty sounds in He’s My Dad, Country’s Inside of me, and Somethin’ Somethin’. Shelby once again finds his mark and puts his strong vocal stamp on the ballads of Clarence Greene and Our Last Memory. Receiving honorable mention and critically acclaimed as Shelby’s signature song, is the jazz track Evergreen, you will surely find this song in your regular rotation.

Rounding out this project is a spunky duet on Darlin’ featuring the sassy vocals from newcomer vocalist and Ten Hut Publishing writer, Lauren Rainey. Beneath this Coat and Tie proves to be a “must have” by each melody uniquely polished by a long list of notable session players adding that extra shine of contrast to his well-received freshman debut album Sweet Tea.
