ROCK: Punk, ROCK: Punk-Pop
Details:
The Wish You Weres are a relentlessly fun and powerful punk rock three-piece from Paducah, Kentucky (USA). Formed in 2004, this band has been obsessed, from the beginning, with putting a fresh spin on the classic punk rock they''ve all adored since birth. With no over-the-top thrills or cheap gimmicks, The Wish You Weres are dedicated to opening the eyes of the bandana-clad youth of today to their beloved world of beer, brotherhood, dayjob-loathing, respect, compassion, and pure punk rock bliss.
The Wish You Weres combine the attack and raunchy power of classic groups like the Descendents and Black Flag with the rocking brilliance of such acts as Jerry Lee Lewis and Chuck Berry, and then provide a generous garnish of MTX/Screeching Weasel/Queers/Gilman St. influence.
Good punk rock may have died, but the resurrection is in progress...
REVIEWS
When I think about Paducah, KY, I think of four things. Punk music isn''t one of them. But The Wish You Were''s has changed that.
With the new release of their first full length album "Left For Dead", The Wish You Were''s have decided to take punk rock back to a place when punk was kicking ass on all sides. They''ve found an attitude that has been lacking in punk rock today, and polished it up with a great studio sound fully equipped with solid guitars and heavy drums. At the same time, they''ve kept their sound fresh and intimidating.
They''ve also conquered the vocal pothole, with a solid lead vocalist in Bryan Moore (who also plays guitar) and fantastic backing vocals with Joey Coma (bass) and Kid Corruption (drums). In my opinion, vocals can make or break a band, and The Wish You Were''s are currently at 100%. Now let''s see if they make it, like I feel they should.
As I listen to "Left For Dead", I know I''m listening to a brand new band, yet I''m hearing three guys that have been playing together for years. They have nowhere to go but up.
Now when I think of Paducah, KY, I think of five things, and great punk music is one of them.
