CLASSICAL: Contemporary, EASY LISTENING: Adult contemporary

Details:
Alex Raineri is a Brisbane based pianist and composer. He
has won many prestigious awards, bursaries and scholarships both in his age group as well as for open age group categories. In 2006, he won both the Queensland Piano Competition and the Queensland Clarinet and Saxophone Competition, as well as winning a composition award in The Keys National Festival of Australian Music.

This debut album contains a mixture of romantic classical pieces and a selection of Alex''s own compositions.

Alex''s compositions add a dramatic dimension to the passion and intensity of the romantic and lyrical selections from Rachmaninoff, Tchaikovsky, Debussy, Bach and Chopin. For example, Sirocco, Desert Dream, Marrakech and Naufrage, the four movements of Suite Arabesque (written for piano and clarinet by Alex in 2005 when he was 12 years old) evoke in the listener the tempestuous beauty of a North African desert storm, with its lows and highs ranging from a warm gentle caressing breeze blowing across the Mediterranean through to a frenzied Saharan whirlwind.

Dinner at Table 7 (a composition for solo piano written
by Alex in 2006 when he was 13 years old) depicts the turbulence of young love and jealousy. It evokes the story of a young couple dining out in a restaurant down town. The initial atmosphere is relaxed and quiet but is soon interrupted by the entrance of folk dancers. The young girl gestures to her boyfriend to get up and dance with her. He refuses to join in so she gets up and dances on her own. It is not long before another young man notices her dancing and, attracted by her beauty, joins in with her. The young girl’s boyfriend is furious when he notices what is going on and a fight starts between the two men.

“Winning multiple live awards for his ability in classical and jazz genres, his performances are always recognised for their passion and emotion.” Street Beat (Sydney), May 2006
